Hello Folks,
Whilst treading water I've tinkered with some new technology. This isn't the correct place to post the link but then again there're no sections related and the folk I communicate with come here often so I'll take a punt & pop the link here.
It's a tad long at 6 min & the sound quality is reduced by Utub compression BUT what the....?

Pretty cool Ray. Did you do the editing and all that stuff on this?

Pretty cool Ray :)
Song's got a Woodstock era feel to it and the video fits perfectly. Tell us a bit more about it.....

Cheers
Joe :D

Cool Ray - the song is a perfect match for the video and vice versa. The video images are what I imagined when I first heard this tune. The sound quality isn't too bad on my headphones, I think it's mono. I like the mixing you did with the effects. Classic!

Hello David, Joey & Gerry,
Thanks for the comments. This is my 1st vid. but I'll outline how I fumbled it together.
I downloaded old ITN footage (hopefully open source now but I noted the source in all descriptions anyway) from Youtube as mp4s using Keepvid & converted them to wmv using Super - both free. Keepvid runs online that lets you downlaod as FLV or MP4 & Super is a download.
I then converted the audio to MP3.
Step 1 was to import the audio into windows movie maker (wmm) and drag it to the audio track.
OHHH, when I converted these I switched the audio options off - I didn't want to battle with extraneous sounds etc. All sound effects of choppers were added well before I decided to do a vid. I had to find & edit clips/scenes to match the recorded sound effects - that was a bit of a hassle - particularly the cannon fire near the beginning.
I then imported the 1/2 doz vids from Youtube into a "collection" in wmm - in doing this the program breaks each clip down into scenes based on percieved edits - very handy.
I then dragged the scenes to the time frame as I wanted them & did some shuffling around etc to get a close 1st fit.
I imported the still images as (JPEGs of old snaps & CD covers etc) and dropped them where I wanted.
I then used the inbuilt title maker to drop some text on the bundle.
Fiddled and fussed about synchs etc for a while then saved it as a project (should have done that every 5 mins shouldn't I?) and then as a movie for play back on a computer.
After LOTS of stuffing about trying to upload to youtube & soundclick I saw the error of my ways (not shown in any of the how to's) & converted a copy of the movie to a flash flick (flv) using super so that it'd be smaller & therefore easier to upload.
I Uploaded to youtube with single word title, description & link word set for private viewing as this speeds up the process.
I used the Upload link at the top right of most Utub pages.
I went into My Videos in my account page (oh, you have to sign up to upload so do that 1st really- free & easy) at youtube and changed all the single word stuff to what I really wanted & set the viewing to public/worldwide.
I was able to copy the embedding script & link for the vid straight away & dropped an embedded version into Myspace & a link at HR. I then uploaded to Soundclick & there you have it.
Took me about three nights to teach myself all of this by trial & error - being a meathead means I took longer than you would/should.
You can import vid from your phone or camera easily too & splice it in.
Oh, I had to download EZ WMV to RM Converter, again free and easy, to change the WMV to RM so I could play the vid on my little MP3/wave player - the quality declines quite a bit with that extra conversion.
As the original saved movie it'll play fullscreen on the computer with quite reasonable quality being that they were MP4s to begin with.
Give it a whirl.
I just wish I had some snaps of Terry & I when we were in a gigging band. The snaps I included were from around the time of the original recording - no need to scare the punters with my aged mug as it currently is.

What's with the random CRT monitor still at 2:48? Did you throw that in just to see if we're paying attention? :)

Subliminal messages - not back to mono but back to CRT.
It's also the gear used to remix (Yammie MT100 4 track tape machine under the mon which shows cakewlk9.3 when it's on).
3 merit points for paying attention.

Very cool--for me the only thing better than a tune, is a tune with moving pictures. Seriously, I love the marriage of music and video--and I love what you've done with it here.

really cool ray!

horrific as they are those shots of the napalm bombardment are mesmerizing and go well with the flute solo.

great work!

Thanks Strat & fader,
It was nice to learn a new skill - however rudimantary.
You've all probably noted that I avoided the obvious infamous naplam shots.
I did, for a nano second, consider it when clips came up in the search but they are too horrific and soul searing to expose people to again even when there's a humanist-socio-political purpose at hand.
Now if I can get a translation for WETTEKE I'll be happy.

This is very very cool. And, like everyone said, the music and video fit like a glove.

Well done Ray!

I'm pleased to see you venture into the world of video.

I liked the video . . . you did a great job of selecting and editng the clips. I've posted a Youtube comment.

Cool stuff Ray.
I've never had the patiance to make a video:(

This came out good. :D

F.S.

I think the sound is pretty good -- I keep buffering, which suck - maybe because it's actually hosted in Australia? I paused it so it can load some. I can't look away while it's playing.

RAMI,
Thanks mate - Hopefully it's not the prostate exam glove thoough.
gecko zzed,
Ta mate. It was out of boredom & a need to do something new for me. The selection was fairly easy & the diting quite so given the wasy movie maker creates scenes from clips. Thanks for the utub comment. I'm thinking about another vid but want to make some new music 1st.
Greg_L,
Dunkershane Gregory my Texan compadre - pilgrim!
Freudian Slip,
Thanks Frooddude! You're very kind.
antichef,
Hosted in Aust? That's scary - took me forever to upload. We do good parties and horse races but files we don't host so well. Thanks for the kind words.
