So, what are you working on?

I just finished mixing a CD for a member here. I also play drums on them all. Bass as well on a few others, but not this one.

Oh, hey yeah, I just finished mixing an EP for a member here too. Can't believe I forgot to mention that. :D

Sounds great Jimmy! I should post a sample soon.

Currently I'm working on getting new drum hardware :(
Two of my cymbal stands keep falling down. I've been looking at this triple cymbal stand made by Mapex. I'm sure that'll hold up well.
And my drum heads need replacing as well.

I also started writing over at controllerism(dot)com. It's a cool place for anyone interested in music tech.
Think I may also try to pick up a job at DJ Tech Tools in a month or two.

I've also been doing a lot of riffing lately.
I've learned in this past year that I've been out of school that I'm a seasonal writer.
This is essentially how I've come to learn it works. In regards to spontaneously coming up with parts at least:
Summer=Guitar time
Winter= Going mad scientist mode on a computer for electronic stuff time
Spring and Fall= I feel great and full of energy so I'm going to drum time

Working on a few things.

-Writing and recording new material for the upcoming Algarothsyum EP. No title yet.
-Making drum tracks for me and my friend's metal project, Astral Throne.
-Writing and recording stuff for Apokalypsos (indie post-apocalyptic MMO video game in development)

Oh, and we're about to move in the next month or so. Moving into a much bigger place, and I will finally have a rehearsal space where I can make Algarothsyum a full band (as long as I don't get sent overseas anytime soon). Can't wait!

I'm working with a band called King Snyder right now. Here is one of the songs we have done, they still haven't mastered it professionally yet but since they are sharing it on the net I figure it's ok for me to share their link.

Reminds me of Coal Chamber a little.

NEW! Turning the Stones by King Snyder

EDIT: wow reverb nation really rapes the quality. To bad, the song isn't that mushy sounding in reality. :(

I'm not one of the guys you asked about, but I am currently working on recording my band's first full length album, "Jacky-Boy". I chose to do it one song at a time so that each song has a slightly different vibe to it (they're all quite different sounding as is). That way I'm also not overwhelmed come time to mix, I can mix as I go this way. We record maybe 1-2 tracks per week (as in guitar or vox) for one given song. So I'll work on that specific tracks until next one laid down. We're releasing the songs 1-by-1 as well online-listen-only until the album is done and ready for sale. That way we're not making fans wait and wait and we can take our time, always given them something new to hear.

Hobo-mastered my first mix for the album after tons of advice for you fellas and it is sounding MUCH much better.

Also working one of my first paid gigs, recording some highschool kids. It's an acoustic rock band with a female singer and drums. Very good diversity practice for me as I've personally never tracked female vox, nor have a I tracked an entire acoustic EP, nor have I ever tracked a drummer SO quiet! Different way of doing everything compared to my comfort zone of straight up rock.

F*-me. Good luck. You just bought a house, didn't ya? Hope it all works out for ya!!!

Yeah I did.. I got some side-income to keep me afloat for a while, and I got some great leads on some new jobs. Could be a blessing in disguise - It's looking likely that I'll end up with an even better job.

...so, what you up to right now? I haven't seen a couple of the regulars around much, and the MP3 Clinic seems to be in a rut lately. Where the hell is Greg? Ido? Supercreep & LPC?

Anyway, I got a new TASCAM us-800 from Jimmy about a month ago, and I can't believe how it's changed the way I work and the ease and speed it gives me. I used to have to record everything into my TASCAM 2488, and then transfer the files into my PC to mix in REAPER. I often hesitated to re-track something because of the steps I had to go through. I probably convinced myself what I already had was good enough on more than one occasion.
Now, it's just press RECORD and there it is.

The ironic thing is, it's actually taking me more time to record now, because I don't settle for something that I might be able to make even just 2% better. Because of that, I'm taking my time and really re-working parts and experimenting, which I wasn't able to do as freely before.

So, now I have 4 songs 90% finished. Before, it would be too much of a hassle to be working on more than one project at a time...too much transfering files, etc....

So, what are you up to? :)

I've been trying to find a balance between work and music and failing.

Well, I guess that's an excuse.

I worked really hard on the last LPC record and burned out on the process. Ugh. It hurts to say that. I didn't want to play for a pretty long time. Maybe I'm just tired. But having a studio makes me feel "pressure" to produce something.

I'm trying to rediscover why I like writing and recording music. We're demoing all the songs now in superior drummer and arranging in a different and more flexible way as a three-piece. James is writing more and is coming up with crazy vocal arrangements, he approaches it like horns. Songwise, I think the stuff we're working on sounds more like our first record than our third.

Lol, I guess the answer to your question is "the same thing as ever, with slightly less enthusiasm".

I think I'm on the mend, however.

Woo Hoo!
I got volunteered :p to do drums and bass for a friends blues project CD.
Time to tune the drums and smack the bass.

:thumbs up:

Im starting on a new album....got a new synth and guitar coming for inspiration

I'm working on covers of songs that I like. I find it helps me hone my listening and engineering skills.

Right now, a simple one: "Heart Of Gold" by Neil Young.

I just put in a new tower with the latest sandy bridge i7, with three 3TB drives. I'm using an ASUS laptop for remote recording through an M-Audio Fast Track Ultra 8. The system is for animation work so right now I'm creating backing tracks of jungle drums and waterfalls and other sound effects. I'm really excited about recording our jazz trio during gigs and putting the audio with HD video. Wish me luck!
