My understanding is that it's pretty friendly on computer horsepower and in general very stable with all manner of interfaces.
But you'd get better answers in the Reaper forum.

I'm sure for the price its great, and pretty easy to figure out. But it aint no Sonar.
I ve only checked it out a few times, but the editing doesnt seem as intuitive and the midi useless. At least I can save 50 bucks and dont have to buy it.

If you're still on 3 you may want to consider an upgrade,especially if you are comping tracks.Track folders,crossfades and the mute tool plus about a million other things.I went from 3 to 6 and it was a significant upgrade IMHO.

Soon. My computer cant handle 6 or 7, when I get a new one I will upgrade, probably to Sonar 8.

IMHO...Studio 6 is a good buy...studio 7...not worth it. I have 7 for what it's worth. Cakewalk has recently been bought out by Roland who, in turn has been picked up by AVID...they're not the same company they were a few years ago.
I could be wrong but, that's what I'm hearing on the cakewalk site.

I think you have to skip a few upgrades in order to make it worth it.If I didn't have GPO I probably would've picked up 7PE for the lite version that's included.
I'm not going to worry about Cakewalk by Roland.Even if I don't like their new products I'm still happy with what I've got now,that and I like Roland stuff anyways.

I'm using version 4 fairly happily now. Will upgrading to 7 make better sounding mixes, i.e. are there better algorithms or processing, or are the improvements just along the lines of tools, automation, inserts, etc. (of which there seem to be many)?

I'm not drinking the better sounding audio engine Kool aid,but for me it was all about the workflow enhancements.I could do all the same stuff with 3 that I can with 6,but it's just a lot easier now.If you're short on plugs or soft synths,PE is a real good deal,especially if V-vocal or audio snap are things you'll use.
At the end of the day I could make music with S1 or even PA9 but now that I'm on S6 I sure don't want to go back.

Let's not forget the VC64 channel strip with PE. Awsome compression plug in my book. The Audio Snap bug hasn't bitten me, but I do like V-vocal quite a bit.

I've got UAD stuff,but if I didn't the VC64 would be tasty.
You can get better plugs and synths than what are included in SONAR,but everything is of decent quality and at the price it's a great deal.I just spent more for one EQ(with discounts!)from UA than I would on the entire upgrade to S7PE.

I started with Tracktion 3 Ultimate. If you want an intuitive interface and logical signal path, then T3 is the way to go.
BUT......
If you want to work more than an hour without crashing and burning and hard rebooting, then stay away from Tracktion....
Sonar 7 PE here. Much more stable, not as logical, not as intuitive to understand, but more powerful and wont crash every time I fart into the mic like T3 did. And the Garrigus Sonar Power book is awesome! I think the synths that come with Sonar are not bad for the money. TT is like having my old Roland U20 back again, Dimension Pro is not bad at all for $99 bucks. Get a student to buy it on academic discount for you, and throw in EZ Drummer and you got a heckuva deal.

I don't hate the Bears,I pity them.
Bears training camp ought to be awesome with that big Grossman/Orton QB controversy brewing in the flatlands.
Especially if they draft another QB, which they might.

I gave it a shot, really. I spent several hours with it. Loyalty issues aside, it aint Sonar by a longshot. Worlds apart. To do complicated stuff like I do would be impossible, its just not advanced. And I am on Sonar 3.
Its easy to learn, thats for sure. I appreciate the price point too, and I am all for the simplicity of it. BUt its for a completely different audience than Sonar, which was the grandaddy of all midi sequencers in ye olden days. Reaper is almost anti midi.
