Snare Drum Microphone Shootout

Wow now that X-O is extremely bright isn't it.
Or I'm I just confusing the beef of the mid range with the 57 and i5?

The Naiant X-O is a brighter sound and I like the way it sits in the mix opening up the midrange for other instruments. I have an X-S mic that gets a workout around the studio and for gigging sounds great on Linda's Sax and clarinet works well on recorder as well.

My first thought was: don't be stupid putting an omni on snare, to much bleed.

I should know better then following general rules without thought.

Thanks for the enlightenment.

Nice mic, seems to sound more, ehr... organic.

Yeah I've been meaning to try some. I got some of his DI's before he discontinued them and I love em. :)

I thought the naiant was a little distant sounding, although my favorite is the audix. It has the punchy of the 57 but it just sounded a little warmer to me.

Well my snare has crappy tuning....I've got new heads since that video and sounds loads better.

The Naiant is the least forgiving, I tried it on another one of my snares already tuned high and it sounded really good. The 57 is the most forgiving, it always sounds meaty. I think the i5 has a bit of 'stick snap' but a little less beef.
