I'm a newbie here...just learning about overheads. I'm using a Beta 52 for the kick, and 57's for the snare and toms. Would Beta 87's work for overheads? If not, what would work well for around 2-$300? Thanks-
do a search, do a search , do a search search search
BTW beta 87s would work.....................any mic would mic would work.....................but preference seems to be for SDCs in a studio environment, although I use 2x SE electronics 2200a's

And nothing......as far as 87a's as overheads, which is why i posted this. And judging by the lack of definitive responses, it doesn't seem to be something that's been definitely touched on, thanks.
As far as the $300 goes, I was meaning per mic, not for a pair. I wish...
A pair of Oktava MC012s would be right in your price range. They make great drum overheads.
The Beta87 is designed principally as a vocal mic. If your goal is to get a pair of vocal mics that can double as drum overheads, I'd suggest a pair of AKG C535s as a better choice.
I'm sure the Beta87 would work, but it wouldn't be my first choice.
