Should we put ducttape over the mouth of our singer?

We recorded these tracks lately, and I got some good responses, but a lot of people dislike the vocals. It has always been an issue in our band, but to me he really made improvements on this record.

Is it a bad voice or just not an ordinary voice, like Billy Corgan or Brian Molko?

Would love to hear some comments on the music/mix too, but I know Take You Home is not ready jet, though I don´t know what´s missing.

Thanks a lot!!!!!!

What's he sound like live? The same? If so then duct tape is the answer because he is struggling with pitch and vocal control (or maybe skip the tape and just get him some lessons). If he sounds better live it could be the vocal booth's fault. I have a damned hard time with straying pitch when I'm wearing headphones.

I listened to We CAn Be....Sounds pretty good, but low end is pretty heavy in the mix....mainly the kick, but there seems to be a bit of build up in all the lows at times. As far as the voice....I personally don't find it bad, but I like Billy Corgan, and Serj Tankian. I think he could do fine, if he works at it, and practices a bit. Maybe not, but I'd give it a shot.

You know I like the second song much better than the first. At least in that one he sounded like he has potential. And I think he does... just maybe some coaching for a few months could steady it. :)

'We Can Be'
Too dark for me. IMO with this composition the vocals need to be dead on and powerful. They need to be the focus and the perfection in the song. In this case, there's a long path to achieve that.

'Take You Home'
The mix was o.k., very listenable. I'd bring the piano up a bit and the acoustic about 1:50 could be brighter. The vocals matched better with this song. Again, I think he has potential, I wasn't wanting to run away. :o

Cool stuff, I`m listening to We can be, and its a nice preformance.
The vox need some work\ducktaping :D
Maybee he needs some practice, I dont know.
But your tune very beautifull, I like it, especially the piano playing is cool.
Very nice arrangment with the strings and the bulild ups, I think a more agressive high pitched vox on the powerfull refrain would have been cool. :)

good work

I got a couple of things going on here but after listening to the track "we can be" twice, before I got busy, I hadn`t realized it had looped at least 3 more times, so I got irradiated :). I hear the deep low end on the kick a bit too prominent in the laid back verses and it's robbing the deep tone on the bass to where its hidden. Then when the guitars come in strong, which are nice sounding, but they have enough low end that the lows get cmpounded and both the kick and bass melt down to the back. Maybe notch the bass and let more kick thru in low mid and then roll off the low end of the kick some more and let the bass come up front on the low end. I'd shelve some more lows off the guitars and it would clean up that syrupy area when the whole rythym section is kickin. Piano is good but I`d give it some presence.
The singer don`t bother me much, but I`d fatten the mids on his voice a lil and verb it back just enough that ya don`t hear the verb.
It was a cool vibe...

Hi

I didn't know "Pete Bass" was into vocals now. Anyway, I think you should search for a new vocalist, the rest of the music is fine.

outch.. this hurts. I was so used to it already, thought it was ´fine´, not great, but fine for a record.

I hope you didnt feel run over by anything I said. I figured that since I have been listening to your stuff for some time now, that it would merit a very close, genuine, honest reflection of what I hear and how I feel about. I like the stuff myself.

p.s. it's not a bad voice at all, its a differnt voice. I thought it could use a bit more meat in the tone and soften the edges with some room ambience.

yeah i think you shouldn't worry about duct taping the singer's mouth anytime soon. from what i've heard lately, singers who can't really sing is what's hot right now! but honestly he doesn't sound all that bad, i've heard WAY worse singing on the radio on a regular basis.
