i dont know if my 1.8 amd processor with 512 ram computer is good enough anymore, im thinking abur jumping into a mac g5, any comments? worth it?
2 grand takes me forever to get, bc im 16 yrs old, but then agian, i love my studio, so tell me if you think its worth it?

any good sites that sell mac g5s? oh ya, i just finished recording my 25th client !! haha

thanks guys.

you have a pc update it it will cost you around 500 to update for the 002 vs the 2,000 for a new mac i know because i am upgrading to the 002 and already updated my computer cost me 485 after taxes

are you good with using a mac? i considered switching over but i find the apples to be too expensive for what you get. I would upgrade your pc insted. you could get like an AMD 3400 with more RAM and you would have a really good system again. Also if new programs come out in the future that interest you, you may have a better chance at compatibility if you stay with a PC.

The G5 is so much more machine than the G4 as you probably know. A lot more than just a Mhz bump. But a lot of pro studios still have their G4s.

You can get a factory refurbished G4 dual 1Ghz for $1299 (expercom.com). The G5 1.8 Dual goes for $1799 at the online Apple store.

Factory refurbs BTW come with 1 year Applecare and the option to extend. You can see & read about the refurbs at:

http://www.apple.com/

Go to the "Store" tab and then to the "Special deals" section.

You won't find ANY discounted Macs. The products are popular and tightly price-controlled. Not even Ebay helps here unless you get really lucky. The best you can do is save on taxes (the Apple store charges tax) by purchasing from online dealers like:

http://www.expercom.com/
and
http://www.smalldog.com/

You can find deal updates and more online dealers at:

Mac hardware and software is more expensive than the PC. Macs are not impervious to software deterioration and problems. Software maintenance (like DiskWarrior) is highly recommended. And although you can get free advice from a genius at the store, if your machine ever actually needs a repair you can say goodbye to at least $300. Therefore Applecare is also highly recommended. You get a year of Applecare with your purchase of a new or factory refurbished Mac and the option to extend (around $250 for a couple of more years) within that year. No Applecare on reseller refurbs.

You could put together a really nice custom recording PC for less than half the $2k. Are you sure the G5 is the answer to your problems? Or are you just not able to withstand its seductive powers?
