What's this business about shockmounts? Is it mostly bullshit? If you don't bump into the mic stand or bash the mic, what difference does it make? For instance, I record on carpet. What difference would a shockmount make? Shocking, I say.

As we all know, the coolest thing about microphones is the way they look, thus the shockmount!
You can't beat the look of a U47, RE20, or how 'bout an AKG D24? Woof...
The BK5 is another winner...
I've got a shockmount for an EV 642 shotgun that is incredible--big spidery affair that really gets your attention...
All of the above probably work, too...

I went to the link for the soundroom site, and all I saw was TV's and stuff like that. When I clicked on audio components, there was nothing pro audio coming up....just more TV stuff. Where do you go on their site to see their pro audio stuff..(and the shockmount?)

For good INEXPENSIVE shockmounts, check out http://www.tensimount.com
I haven't used one, but another reader that I sent there reported back that they were very good and the service was excellent.

Peace,
Rick

Hey, BigKahuna, how'd you find that page? That dude is on my ISP, which is only here in northern Alabama. Good link...

looks cool

my advice is buy a mic that comes with one... because it looks cool ! :D

if you need a good quality large diaphram condenser for a great price... i got my Audio Technica AT4033a/SM BRAND NEW for $299! at 8th street music. they have what's called a "bulk pack".. but you get everything.... i think it's just packaged different, but it's nothing to worry about, you get everything in a real box etc... check it out!

oh yeah.. it comes with a shock mount... i just got it today, so i'll let you know if i notice that it helps...

That's a 10-4 on the looks cool.
But $85- what I was quoted for 1 RODE NT-1 shockmount is too high.
Might reduce that foot-tappin' rumble, but not eliminate it depending on how hard they were stomping.

If you're like me, you are broke much of the time, and the rest of the time the old lady has done spent what you had. So shockmounts take the sting out of out-of-true floors, and wobbly stands, and besides -- I am not making this up --they look cool. I have a pair of EV757s with regular stand adapters, a pair of SM81s with the same, and 2 4033s with shock mounts. Which two do you suppose I bring out for company? "Here, have a seat on the stump, just brush that stuff off -- it aint toxic -- and didja notice the nice shockmounts?"

not mine

I wish I could come up with stuff like that, though ...

The guy's name is Tim O'Brien ... I don't know him ... just stumbled across the link one day looking for el-cheapo shockmounts. His is a nice design.
