Hey all,

I've been experimenting with this for a while now. The only time I get the 'feel' and vibe out of my recorded vocs is when I peak the recording at +6-10db. I've been reading and ppl suggest you record at -6,-8,-10.

How do I go about that?
Do I turn the nob on my Mbox2 to what record my vocs at 0db and then turn the channels db to let's say -6db?

Or do I set the nob on my Mbox2 so that when I record at my regular voice loudness it peaks around -6fb,-8db with channel being set at 0db?

Thanks,

mes

Actually -18dB to -12dBFS is where you want to be peaking in your DAW on individual tracks. This is done for various reasons which include the additive nature of digitally summed multiple tracks--- i.e. load enough tracks recorded at -6dBFS and pretty soon your DAW output is clipping with all faders set at unity before you even do any processing.

There is no international standard for D/A level conversion but most European countries recognize -18dBFS (digital) as 0dBu (analog) which is 1voltRMS.

I would set your DAW faders at unity and set mic level from your preamp.

Turn up your monitors to where the music is as loud as you like it to be...then adjust all the track levels as needed.

This is the right idea. Keep the fader at 0 and then use the gain knob on the Mbox to set your level for tracking.
