Sappy love song needing mix advice

The piano sounds great. I love piano in songs (I'm learning to play myself) Especially "sappy love songs"
I'm no expert on vocals, but I like your vocal style. It sounds a bit different, very cool ;)

This is great song, I'm enjoying it :) I think the mix could possibly use a little EQ work on individual instruments to seperate them a bit more in the mix. Hard to explain that, but I think you should give it a try. Personally I raise each instrument's "best sounding" frequency a bit. Then drop that frequency on other instruments a bit. That creates good seperation. Not saying it's bad in the song, but just a thought that might make it sound even better.

Cool song man! Like the lyrics too

Thanks, SnakeDog. I was fighting alot with the 200-500Hz range on this piece, so I cut a lot out of those frequencies. That left the guitars sounding a little too thin. I think I'll retrack them. I like the full sound of the piano, but it takes up a lot of sonic real estate, so I'm going to have to rethink the arrangment. Thanks again for listening and the comments.

Love the sound you got for the vox.
Just great.

The piano sounds great too, good job.

The only thing that keeps this song in the amateur sounding realm is that jangly ass guitar.

Lemm hear a version of this without that even being there.
I bet it would be killer.

So whats this new gear you got hmm???

Dude, nice vocals!!!! Way nice. Piano is very good sounding. I agree the guitar needs something. Either make it fuller, and more in the mix, or do as Chris says....leave it out and give it a try. Nice song though. Very nice.....

Jangly ass guitar...Yeah, for some reason I want to be able to channel Roger McGuinn, but I just can't do it. :)

I am definitely retracking the guitars at some point and will try and come up with a better part.

As for the gear, nothing special. I got a delta 66 to give me a few more inputs; and i got the nady ribbon mic, which i used on the vocal for this track. not a bad mic for $200. plus, it looks badass.

Thanks for listening.

thanks for chiming in, dude. i will definitely work on the guitar. I want to keep the acoustic in there, but the electric may eventually get scrapped.

Beautiful song scrubs. Hits me as a vocal/piano piece essentially and it's perfectly balanced between the two, to my ear. The ac gtr on the right adds a nice touch, but I don't think the elec on the left fits as well. I'd replace it with a second acoustic gtr, maybe doubling the right gtr (but tracked a 2nd time) or maybe with a simple arpeggio of something like three quarter notes and a dotted half in a repeating pattern.

There haven't been many tunes in triple meter in the clinic. And I didn't even notice the organ until the final bar... sounds good in there.

Sounds pretty good to me. I kept wanting it to take off though. You know, drums and a David Gilmour lead :D .

Tim & Mike

Thanks for listening, guys. I respect both your opinions highly.

Yeah, I always was a little different that way.

Man, can't get beyond the vocals...Nice. Sounds good to me. Listening to this mix, and then the older version, sounds like the piano is a bit fuller now. Fills up the musical space nicely. Seems to have more depth to it. I really like the tune.

Yeah, this mix is thinner in a good way. Less tubby in the mids.

This mix sounds great man :D
The piano sound is very nice along with those very nice vocals. I like the way the vocals/piano carry this tune.. the guitar seems a bit back, letting them be the star of the show.
Good song ;)

i hope i dont have to dodge bricks for this, but i kind of prefered the jangly ass guitars. i tend to musically hang around the indie rock genre... a whole genre which of course is generally centered around jangly ass guitars... just putting in my 2 cents. awesome mix though. like everyone else, great vocal sound.... i think im going to have to go out and get that nady ribbon mic now.

I like the change, with the L/R acoustic gtrs. An occasional lick or countermelody on elec or acoustic would add a complimentary instrumental layer, I think.

Tim

Thanks, guys. I appreciate all the comments and compliments. Kasey, I have nothing against jangly ass guitars, either. It just didn't fit as well in this piece as it did in my head. Peace.

At least they're "jangly ass guitars"...I usually end up with just "ass guitars"
Sounds like you've been listening to me.... :D
