Hi there, I'm a user or Gigastudio 3 Orchestra and am looking to buy a/some string sample libraries... to include solo strings and string sections (hence the "a/some"). The two main competators seem to be Vienna Symphonic Library and SONiVOX, which are both rather pricey. I'm just wanting to check if there are any other libraries out there worth considering. I came across 'London Solo Strings' and Kirk Hunter string libraries which I'm currently looking into.

I own the Kirk Hunter library, as well as the EastWest Gold. I've also used the Vienna library and some others. For strings I highly recommend the Kirk Hunter library. In my opinion it is superior to the strings in the VSL library, which I really don't care for that much.

I'm not familiar with the "London Solo Strings".

Thanks. What do you think about the other orchestral sections available in the Kirk Hunter library? Are they just as good as the strings or would you recommend any any other libraries for different sections. I ask this because I'm wondering if it's worth going for the Diamond Orchestra or get different sections from different libraries?

The new Play version of EWQL silver, "Silver Complete", has chromatic sampling and release trails. Also, the ability to turn on and off articulations seems like it will improve workflow.

I'm using the old version of Silver+Expansion, and I'm planning to get the upgrade to the Play version.

I have extensive use of scoring libraries, and am a dealer for most of them. EWQL is aimed at the film sound. If thats what you're going for, its hard to beat. With PLAY it will be a very nice package.

My favorite bundle for the money, though, is the Vienna Instruments Special Edition. You get the Vienna Player3, which is better than PLAY in my opinion. Its less buggy and has easier workflow. You get a smattering of all the Vienna orchestra sounds, which are much more pure and fit better into other types of productions than the EWQL samples do.

I like a lot of the other instruments in the Kirk Hunter Diamond. But I also like the woodwinds and brass from the VSL library, some nice stuff there. It's rare to find everything that's your favorite in one library.

but you have to start somewhere and I think the Kirk Hunter gives you great strings and very good everything else. Then you just keep adding to your library as time goes on.

i dont think all those libraries listed are compatable with gigga which i thought was his original intent... or did i miss something???

he said he was looking for other libraries outside of Giga. Good call as Giga is a pain in the butt and very outdated. Giga4 is new, but very up in the air. They missed the boat by waiting for so long with a bad product while the technology and everyone else passed them by.

Well i guess there are many options of what to get, but yes 'demented chord' idealy i'd like something giga compatible, and I think hard2hear is right about giga. I bought it nearly 2 years ago and couldn't figure out how to use the dam thing so just didn't bother for a while. Now I'm wanting to try again and i've figured some of it out, but of course technology has moved on and many libraries seem to go with kontakt or provide their own player which means their is almost no use for giga. I've been quite intrigued by Sonivox symphonic strings and Garritan Orchestral Strings available for giga. But I hear GOS2 is being release later this year which will pretty dam good but only for kontakt. I'm wondering if I get GOS1 there might be some way to upgrade to GOS2, possibly import it to giga?

Actually, the new Garritan will be on his own player. Alot of people have abandoned Native Instruments as well because of their refusal to update the software to meet the hardware available. Thats where East West's PLAY came from, too.

I've never heard of the Kirk Hunter library, but I'll have to check it out. Have any of you used East West with pro tools?

and does east west hollywood strings only come with strings?? or do they also have other instruments? because at their site, the demos have all sorts of instruments on there.
