First mix of this one folks. I think I went a bit 70's here.......unpacked my wah and let her rip. Hope you guys can tell me what to fix, like you always do.

Ill leave this one to the experts..immediately i thought the kick should be up and the vocals needed to be louder...especially the lil' telephone filter part..solo was great and and..

10/10 thanks :)

Sounds done to me...and it was a great ride.

From an arrangement view, it's excellent. The breakout with the thick harmonies and new progressions was fantastic....something new timing and repititions keeping me off center..just the right mix of unpredictability and restatement....I loved listening. Big smile on my face. And a real powerful blast of sound...love the bottom end. A ten.

Sounds very cool Joey. Looking forward to the new CD.

Glad it made you smile, Jeff ;)
I always try to arrange my songs in a way to keep the listener interested...even if it is rock'n roll:D
I believe every song is a journey.
Thanx for listening!

I think the mix sounds great Joey! The kick is soundin' punchy on my monitors.

Your production is always great. Guitars sound great. Vocal and background harmonies sound spot on. Guitar solo rips.

You definitely have the right set of lungs for this kind of music:)

"Grunge" exploded when I was in high school. Metal a la Iron Maiden was before my time, so I associate much more with Soundgarden/Rage/Alice in Chains than I do with Maiden/Priest. What I like about your stuff is that it offers something for both audiences. You're doin your thing man, and it sounds real good. Mix sounds fine to me.

Thanx man, those are some nice comments.;)
Yeah, the thing about my music taste is that I'm old enough to remember the 70's (...the teen years:D), but I'm always keen on new sounds and styles ranging from Black Sabbath to Soundgarden to Creed to Slipknot and so on. All these influence my music. I don't think I'm doing anything special, but hey, I'm having my fun....:).
Appreciate your comments!

I saw AC/DC last night, so my ears are pretty fried right now, but I'll give it a go. :D

I think this is pretty good. That gated reverb on the kick in the intro is kind of cheese, but it's not noticeable once the song gets rolling. Maybe something with a more natural decay would be a little more modern. I think all the levels are pretty right on. Everything is audible, nothing jumps out, nothing is too buried. Love the solo section. Vocals and guitars are just right.

My only nits - Even with AC/DC's cannons and barrage of tube-amp goodness blasting my ears last night, I'm still hearing the cymbals as too glassy/tinny. Not terrible, but a little sizzly. And just as a personal note, I think the drums are too busy. I think this song would have better head-bangability if the drums chugged along a little more four-on-the-floor without so much syncopation and fills.

Overall a great job. :)

Friggin rocks Joey....love it, can't really comment on mix as I am at work right now....love the guitar/riff tho' ...vocals are great as well...mix sounds pretty weel balanced ...can make everything out clearly except for bass guitar...but again I'm at work and can't listen at a great volume to nit....I love your guitar playing!

I had no idea you used to sing for Head East.:D:D

Big, fat, thick steak of a mix. Loved the impact of the kick and snare. This mix should translate pretty well on virtually anything.

Nice choice of verbs...clean, quick and outta the way. Excellent backing vox.

The only nit I can possibly pick are the crash cymbals seem to not have alot of tone, just crash/sizzle events. But, that's really bout all I can offer and that's pretty damn picky.:p

Kick ass tune....

Those damn cymbals.....I'm tired of playing around with them. They sound good on their own and get lost in the mix, I keep increasing the highs to make them come out better and they start sounding glassy. The kick sample has reverb on it so I shortened it to cut some out, that's why it sounds gated. Drum arrangement...I've played with some pretty hectic drummers in my time, it probably left a mark. :D But you could be right there.
Great ears Greg! Bet you enjoyed AC/DC...I saw them way back in 1988.
Thanx for the great comments, bro!

Thanx Queep!
Bass follows the guitar riffing pretty closely so probably that's why it's not that audible on bass-less speakers. More due to the fact that I'm not a bass player....even though I love to play it. :D

Having heard your tunes, that is is a pretty good compliment, Teysha, thanx!
Yeah, I think I need better cymbal samples.
Thanx again for listening! ;)

LOL...I'm in the same boat with cymbal samples. I was recently awakened to just how toneless they were too.:D Gerg can be pretty astute with drum mixes.

dont ive just about finished one with my new drum prog.....Im thinking of changing the cymbals four times just to get me into the habit for later ;)

What makes a cymbal sound musical and not ear shattering is mid-range. High quality cymbals that sound pleasing even when loud have a full and rich midrange with lots of tones and harmonics. Don't boost the highs. Work with the mids, if you can, on those cymbals and see if it helps.

How do you use cymbal samples anyway? My drums/room are in record mode right now. Maybe I can record my Paistes if you wanna give them a try. They're sweet. :D
