Sounds great Joey. everything is locked in tight. Love the song, man!!

Nice to see a lady chiming in......:)
Thanx for the nice comments! I always start with the drums first after I do a scratch track of the tune, then bass, guitars, voices, solos. Here are the lyrics so you can understand what I'm mumbling about:

Sacred Ground

Waiting, standing at the crossroads
Trying to find the right one
A thousand prying eyes
All looking at me

Wayward, feel the spirit call me
And the Earth my mother
Tells me yet again
To lay my head and

Climb the highest of mountains
Touch the sun when I rise
Feel the power that holds me
‘cos I’m walking on sacred ground
Walking on sacred ground

Mystery of this world surrounds me
Wanna find a reason
Ear to the ground
My mind is loaded

I won’t listen to the preacher
Telling me to hold back
Gonna find my own way
Leaving here to

Climb the highest of mountains…..

Ground
Tell me what is this I’m walking on
Ground
I stand here and feel it moving

Thanks! First, I think all of you guys are amazing, who record yourselves, playing all of these different instruments, sing, and then mix and master such clean, great sounds! Jeff Maher and I just did a collaboration on one of my songs, and what he did to the song, and the overall mix is incredible. Once I got all the tracks back, I combined them and made an mp3, so I could compare it to what he did to "finish" the song. Well, all I can say is I have a LOT to learn.

Each one of these facets of music making is an art on its own, so I have great respect for those who have seemingly mastered so many arts at once!!

OK, now for the lyrics. You may think this is weird, but reading them took me back to an old Val Kilmer movie, for some odd reason, where he was some sort of agent (CIA, FBI, I can't remember) who had a native american heritage. He goes to this village, and it shows the process of him grappling with his roots, the life he has built - away from those roots, and what he can't get away from - the instincts he has from his heritage. I wish I could remember the name of the movie, but anyway, there it is.

Sorry. I didn't mean to write a novel. I'm going to listen to your new mix now!:)

Joey,
I had a very close listen to pick the changes etc and noticed much more detail on this listen: the bvox are great - subtle & supportive! The solo wah work is tremendous. A joy to listen to.

That's OK, I like novels...!:D
You know, when we write lyrics, it's like we're giving someone colours and he paints his own picture and I find that fascinating. It's great that the lyrics gave you something to refer to, and in this case it's the right subject matter. What I'm trying to say here is that we are part of a greater process which is much deeper and complex than we think. I know that movie by the way, but I can't remember what it was called.
You're right when you refer to recording as an art. It takes time to learn what you need to learn, but you just have to confront it with an open mind. This site has been the key to my improvement, because you find all the help you need here. Too many good ones to mention. Oh and we certainly didn't master everything at once, I think for most of us it was all blood, sweat and tears and it still is.;) So keep working on it and you'll get there....:)

There, that was my novel...:D

Yes, I find this mix less muddy than the first one. It pays to let a song lie for a few days and to listen to it with fresh ears. Thanx for the comments, Ray!

Hi Joey! Thanks for Your comments! That is really neat, to me, that you said I was on the right track with the lyrics. I listened to your new mix, and was amazed to find it even cleaner, and more professional than the previous one. It's amazing what we can attain to, as we seek for more perfection in what we do! I recollect one of our HR colleagues saying, "why aren't you famous??" That is a question you may want to explore. Is it a conscious decision on your part? Have you not pursued it, because it is not your passion? Or have you not been faced with the right opportunities? I think I'd like to hear your answer on that one, but I tend to be way too intrusive in matters of the heart (because that is what I care about)... So, if you feel like answering my query, by all means, let loose on your thoughts. Otherwise, silence will be its own answer.
p.s. I'm gonna keep my training wheels on, and pursue more perfection in this craft!!:):)

You know, it's hard to think of being famous when you're 50 and got 2 small kids to raise.......;) I did have a couple of small breaks in my life and got to be around some famous people, though "fame" didn't happen. But there are questions you have to ask yourself, especially if you're older, like does the world need my music, am I ready to give up the life I have now and always be away from my family on the road, will I be able to maintain the strain mentally and physically? These things come easier when you're young with less ties. The music world is a tough business and it's full of leeches, waiting to cut pieces away from you. I've had a little taste of that. Success also doesn't come that quickly. It's something that's built step by step. Overnight succes is in most cases, a myth. You don't just start filling stadiums overnight, you start small and grow, but it takes dedication and it's a stony road. In my situation right now, I don't think that's an option. But if it's your dream to pursue success and your family supports you and you feel you can handle it, then why not? Me, I'm doing this because my soul needs it....

Yeah, I've heard way too many lyrics from "successful" performers who stated things along the line of "this has taken way more out of me than I was willing/wanted to give..." That's not what I'm looking for - not what I started this journey for... I just want to learn what I can, and be the best I can, in my own little corner of the world. It doesn't matter to me that droves of people don't hear, or know, what I'm doing. However, this last song is one I want to share with everyone I know, because I'm so happy about it!
Raising 2 kids? How old are they? I think I'm dealing with the gamut right now, with kids @ 19, 18, 15, 13, and 5!! It's a LOT of work! But, the MOST important job any of us have!!

Oh, Joey,
I didn't mention the thing I istened for in the 1st place: The drums sound thumpin' good & the metal bits sound fabulous now. You've a new sample tank - milk it 'cos it works a treat.
PS - superb work done by the sampled maniac.

sampled maniac...I like that!

Mine are 7 and 11.
Yep, I'm quite happy with my little corner, too....;)

Aint no flies on this, brother.

Very clean, distinct and clear as glass. Beautiful mix...very meaty as was the first run at this, but definately cleaner. The backing vox seemed to really shine this time around. Man...it's nice.
Great job! I got zero nits to pick with this one.

You're one of the guys with the golden ears here......;)
