well...if Greg would be so nice as to upload just a cymbal track from one of his songs, maybe we could sample them.....(hint, hint....
)

What makes a cymbal sound musical and not ear shattering is mid-range. High quality cymbals that sound pleasing even when loud have a full and rich midrange with lots of tones and harmonics. Don't boost the highs. Work with the mids, if you can, on those cymbals and see if it helps.
How do you use cymbal samples anyway? My drums/room are in record mode right now. Maybe I can record my Paistes if you wanna give them a try. They're sweet.![]()

Please , please, pretty please!
Here's how: press record, hit cymbal....count to 6, hit it again.....repeat about 5 times, render, upload, that's it. The sampling you can leave up to us suckers and false drummers....![]()
So do you want them as 24-bit stereo wavs...or what?![]()

While my cymbals are legendary examples of pure rock badassedness - used by everyone from Bonham to Keith Moon to Phil Rudd to Alex Van Halen - keep in mind that I'm not recording in a pro drum room with billions of dollars worth of mics and pre-amps.
But, I'll see what I can do and would be thrilled if what I can get recorded is good enough for yall to use.![]()
This may be my favorite guitar sound I've heard from you yet. Tons of meat, but still has that bite. The whole thing has really good focused energy.
Not sure I would've noticed had I not read others' comments (probably not!), but the cymbals did stand out to me as being oddly thin...
I kind of wish the bass guitar had a little more definition to acentuate the punch. I get that it follows the guitars, but could maybe cut through a little more. Pretty amazing recording though and a super tight performance as usual. Didn't even mention the vocals as I kind of take that for granted by now...sorry.
I have some samples off my kit too if you want... The ones you have here are very strident and sibilant, distracting a little from what is otherwise a stupefyingly cool piece. I also think that you have an unnecessary notch between 60Hz and 125Hz. THe kick has bottom, but not a lot of presence...
GREAT vocal harmonies. VERY good stuff man. Great use of extended chords in this idiom.
This has a touch of Budgie in the opening riff - & that's a cool thing in my world.
I like the drums when the songs happening but I'm not so keen on the intro bass drum sound.
I really like the way this one takes me on a journey - some clever & entertaining devlopments.
Nice wah wailing - I'm a dyed-in-the-wool wah whacko.
Intense & powerful vocal performance as well.
Superb - with GERGSAMPLECYMBALS I expect even more.
Sounds great. You might want to consider 48 kHz recording instead of 44.1 KHz to keep up to the latest standards. The symbols are a little glassy I agree.
Yeah...if you're setting your sights on vid, film, etc, 48 is the thing. The vid/film producers and publishers like to do their own conversions for other stuff, cuz they have better software than most little studios that make stock music....but most music...including major CD releases , is done in 48/24 'film' standard, cuz it's likely to end up on DVD...24/48. They want it to sound its best there. And it's now a big sell-point for the publishers to offer that rez to their customers on hard drive units...at "Amazing, Colossal, 24/48!!!! Real benefits or not...the demand is up......newer, whiter, brighter.....yadda.
"Everybody's doing it."
