"Everybody's doing it." Like these guys....

"Get instant access to the Gratis Music Library with a Gratis Music Hard Drive embeded with mSoft RESLP technology that allows users to search and transfer full bandwidth 48K, 24 bit WAV files without the inconvenience of waiting for internet downloads. RSLP technology also allows Gratis to update the Hard Drive on an ongoing basis so you are always up to date with the latest music."

They don't demand it from their composers...but strongly recommend it....

It takes a lot more space...forget how much....double?..but I peel off a MB about every five seconds of recording time. My finished platforms can reach 2 gig. Usually about a gig+. I can only get about 30 tracks before my old Dell wonks, and starts dropping out. At 16/41, I got a lot more.

If you have a new puter, not to worry, I think. I'm running only 1G RAM. But I maintain 85% of my drive storage by not loading up on useless programs, and store my finished work on an outboard 80G drive. And 30 tracks is enough....for a newbie, anyway.

Sounds pretty cool to me. Great performance and mix. That drum track sounds pretty damn good for being samples.

Can't believe it took me 3 days to finally listen to your song. I'm late to every party.

This song just totally kicks ass. Vocals are awesome and fitting of the tune. You nail it everytime. How did you hit those high notes at the end and why the hell aren't you famous??

coz hes 50 ;)

24 bit is OK, Greg. You can just leave the hits together on the same track and then I'll cut them up for sampling myself.

:)

And do some choke hits, Gerg. And some hits on different spots of the cymbals, you know, center, periphery, center, periphery. Also, do some hits with soft mallets and brushes. Thanks! :p

Btw, song sounds great man. Except for the cymbals. :p

Thanx Matt!
I put a lot of time in programming the drums 'cos I don't use loops. Sounds more natural that way. Learned a lot by observing Greg's recordings 'cos he's a real drummer. ;) I play with the the midi velocities on a lot of the hits so that varies the intensity of each one.

Better late than never, Dave!
Those high notes actually come quite easy to me, I just scream my ass off....wife thought something was wrong with me!
But the rest broke my balls to sing, 'cos the whole thing is in Eb and I usually sing in Ab. But I had to adjust to the guitar riffs and I really wanted to play the solo in Ab. It's all flats 'cos I tune the guitars a half-tone down.
KC said it, I'm 50....:D
Thanx for the nice comments!

Very cool. I'm not sure what all you're saying here, but I really like the chord progressions/vocals in "ground", in the middle of the song, before the guitar solo. Guitars are so rich and powerful, too. Do you do all of that before the drum tracks? I really like when you let your vocals do that intense vibrato at the end of the phrasings. Then, sometimes, you hold notes with no vibrato. Great job.

Nice to see a lady chiming in......:)
Thanx for the nice comments! I always start with the drums first after I do a scratch track of the tune, then bass, guitars, voices, solos. Here are the lyrics so you can understand what I'm mumbling about:

Sacred Ground

Waiting, standing at the crossroads
Trying to find the right one
A thousand prying eyes
All looking at me

Wayward, feel the spirit call me
And the Earth my mother
Tells me yet again
To lay my head and

Climb the highest of mountains
Touch the sun when I rise
Feel the power that holds me
‘cos I’m walking on sacred ground
Walking on sacred ground

Mystery of this world surrounds me
Wanna find a reason
Ear to the ground
My mind is loaded

I won’t listen to the preacher
Telling me to hold back
Gonna find my own way
Leaving here to

Climb the highest of mountains…..

Ground
Tell me what is this I’m walking on
Ground
I stand here and feel it moving

I knew you'd find that funny. :D

Many moons ago I played drums in a psychobilly band. We had a few "softer" songs that I'd play with brushes. Then our bassist quit, so I took over on upright bass and we got a new drummer. That was 1994. I haven't touched brushes since.
