NO nits RAMI.
Vox levels seem great though the chorus may be a tiny bit loud - or it may be my headphone settings.
COOOOOL song!

You've got some of that nasel whine that makes the modern Purple sound. Or are you a Blackmoore purist :D ?

Nice one, RAMI. This is the kind of stuff I'd like my recordings to sound like. Very nice separation of all the instruments.

Very cool tune, RAMI. I really like the verse riffs and the chorus has great melody. I can see this becoming one of my favourites from you. It has all the elements that draw me to your tunes.

I'm not in my mix space right now, and I'm listening on consumer phones, but I am getting a little harshness in the vocals (very little, but it's there in these headphones) and there is something in the main guitar tone that I'd maybe pull down a touch. Likely somewhere in the 650 - 750 range. The general tonal character of the main guitar sounds perfect for the song. It might just be how things are coming across in these phones, so I'll listen again tonight in my mix space to see if I am getting the same sense.

I like the bass tone. Is there any room to push the kick up or beef it out somewhere around the 50 - 60Hz area just a little? Really like the snare.

Vocals could be more upfront IMO. But if that is the intention, they do come through very clear.

Other than that, really sounds good.

Thanx Ray. You might be right. The vocals go from a single track to 2 doubled parts (4 tracks), so I'm not 100% convinced I got the balance between them right. I'll give it another listen in a few days and see how it seems to me. Thanx brother.

Awesome, man. Thanx. Nasal whine on the vocals a la "old man Gillan"? Or do you mean Nasal in the guitar tone?

Thanx buddy. I hear that slight harshness in the vocals, too. To be honest, I heard it and I kind of liked it, but it definitely wasn't intentional. I still want to find out why it's there in the first place, because it's not something I'm always going to want. I know I don't record too hot. I never get anywhere close to even -10db, so I'm not sure why it's happening. I'll check out the beef situation on the kik, too. Thanx duder.

Thanx DM. My vocals could probably always be more up front. But I'm never comfortable with it when they are. I usually settle for a little too low, but at least I can listen to it without cringing.

Thanx for all the comments, guys. To be honest, I'm a little surprised. I thought I might have missed the mark with this one. Wasn't 100% confident about its' goodness. Much appreciated.

Kick be stronger, and I'm on the complete opposite side of the fence for the vocals: they sound a bit strident to me.

Just to be clear, I meant very bright and not a knock against your voice itself.

Thanx for clarifying, Sammy. I wasn't sure what you meant, but assumed you meant my voice. I didn't have much to say in response because I would have agreed with that. I'm not crazy about my voice in general. I'll see if I can tame some of the harshness, I didn't do much EQ'ing to my voice in this one, and maybe I should have. I'll take another look at it.

I am not sure if I ever listen to your mixes with a critical ear because they are so well done. Seems you have come real close to mastering your craft...great job and really enjoyed the tune.

Like Gillan. He became more nasal after he blew out his voice as far as I know. I listened to the album "Purpendicular" a lot so that's what I'm used to.

Ah I see. I noticed his voice was thinner on Perfect Strangers, but had no idea he blew it out. Hey man, I'll take any comparison with Gillan's voice, even if it's when he went nasal. He's my all-time favorite voice. In his Machine Head and In Rock prime, he was at the top of the mountain as far as I'm concerned.

That is one of my favorite rock vocals.

Right up there is Chris Thompson from Manfred Mann. I just really liked that voice.

I had a listen to the second mix and also got to compare it to the first.
For me when i opened it up it downloaded, so yes, I have both versions.
The second is vastly superior to the first.
Like your voice or not, the vocals are superb. Most of us are never really fond of our own voice anyway, so our opinions matter little. It is how the listener perceives it that matters. Yours sounds great.
This time around it sits in the mix perfectly and I'm particularly fond of the choruses.
Here are my very little nits. First off I listened though my console and ns10s, which are not known for ample bottom, and tend to bring guitars forward.
This mix had plenty of bass., yet the guitars were a bit buried. Personally, I'd bring the guitars up a wee bit.
secondly, I wasn't really digging the cocked wah sound on the guitar fills and lead. Maybe some reverb and delay to not have it so present? To me it sounded like it was pasted on top of the mix rather than sitting in the mix.
Those are just minor nits and could just be my own tastes.
Overall, Excellent song, good performance, and good engineering!
A cheers and a thumbs up!

I really REALLY appreciate that, R.

I guess I'll just always wish I had a better voice. Funny, I can sing like Jagger, or Alice Cooper pretty accurately. But I still don't really know how "My" voice is supposed to sound. I belt out one of my originals, I'm all excited about it, and then when it comes to mix down time, I'm like "Fuck, I sang "thin" again". Hopefully, it's not as bad as I think it is.

As far as the "cocked wah" sound on the leads, I tried a few different sounds, and it sounds like that with all of them. So, I think it's the way I actually picked it. I think I tried playing with the edge of the pick, a la ZZ TOP, trying to get those chirps, which never happened.

Thanx a million.

Get a metal pick and choke up on it.
I make and use brass picks from busted cymbals. Chirp like a mother.

Shit, I missed this post some how. Thanx a lot Bruther. I really appreciate that.

Seems I'm always late on replying but have to agree with Bruthish. I enjoy your performance so much I don't listen critically. The version I heard sounds like a winner to me. Maybe a little more cowbell!

Wanna know how YOUR voice is supposed to sound? Just listen to any one of your songs. You have something that not many people have. A unique voice. It stands out and is just as easily recognizable as Ian Gillan's, Janis Joplin's, Alice Cooper's and on and on. It is an incredible gift to have.

I love your stuff, Rami. You constantly and consistently blow me away with your productions. Your bass tone is and has been, my goal ever since I heard your first song. I still don't have it. It always sits perfectly in the mix and you can hear every note. You can talk about your signal chain and plugs and such but I know you are holding something back. It's like the secret family recipe that my mother handed down to me. Problem is, she NEVER told me what the secret was so it never turns out like hers.

Love the song. There are a couple of places that things seem to meld together a little too much but they come and go so quickly that it is hard to pinpoint just where and when it happens! Your voice sounds good when it is IN the mix instead of ON TOP of the mix. That's why they call it a 'mix.'

Keep on keeping on! Love ya, Brother!
