ok,now what do i do? i thought fer sure i could get a decent vocal sound(decent,umm.....?)with my musician shoestring budget...$250,ummm this is my home studio ,which at the moment is a mere boss br-8 and a boss dr-b drum machine, and the sp-202 sampler,aaa-and a really cheap AT dynamic mic, this is the first time i have worked digital.and it is so different .but blah blah,i will upgrade next year to a computer multi -track environment, but 'til then,i was gonna get a used large diaphragm from maybe a pawn shop,or through a music store.someone mentioned a marshall large diaphragm,i saw them in the catalog, anyone try this particular one out?is it the same amp company?then i also saw a nady cheeeeeep for $99,is this a joke?anybody have any serious warnings against a used studio mic?and anybody check out the other companies?it seems that everyone is making recording mics because of the home studio boom, and there is some obvious conclusions, like yes,i want a good sound,i save an extra 200$ and buy the at4033,there are some good companies that haVE been around long enough to have a serious reputation, and they are reliable, but i am trying to find some unique particular exception,(yeah right)but i want to look and look,i definitely will go with different and unique, before other things, but still want a good track to work with.you guys are saying that the nt-1 has it's problems, but whay about the other rodes?is it just good co. with one mediocre mic,or vice versa?

save up for the AT 4033! I just got mine and am in love with the way it captures every sound I've put through it. I had been using a rode nt1 almost exclusively up until now. so the difference in the sound quality was apparent in the AT's first track playback. the rode nt1 is okay, but i was never that impressed.

Well

I sugest you do a search here in this forum on those mics you mentioned...

You really need to try the mics out at home to get an accurate feel for which one suits your needs best. I had read, and read, and read opinion after opinion by "the experts", and auditioned many mics in the stores before I bought one. I ended up with an AT 4033. I got it home, and discovered that I didn't like the way it sounded on my voice as much as I did in the store.

I borrowed some more mics, and after testing them through my system, came to the conclusion that a Rode NT-2 worked better in most applications, FOR ME. Hear that. FOR ME. Maybe I got shitty ears, but they're mine, and I'm pleasing me first.

You need to try to get those things at home so you can decide.

Good Luck

Yo Mike:
Amen, what you hear tells the real story of what you need. I personally, like how how the NT1 works; it sounds good and has very little, if any floor noise... now I haven't tried the At 4033 but I'll bet it works just as good also... maybe down the road I'll upgrade, but for my application at the current time the NT1 works just fine.

Thanks to all,
Ryan and everyones opinion. I tried the mic out and dig it. And for the price you really cant beat it.

Okay Sondriven:
Keep us in suspense no longer... which mic did you go for? This thread has been like a soap opera. But I hope you got some good information from everyone that joined in. Good luck.
DL.

So, I Wonder...

How much WOULD it cost (when all said and done with tax and shipping and insurance; where applicable) to actually rent two or three mics in the same price range for a week to see which one worked "best" for you AND then, "best" for all-around general use?

It just makes me wonder... When the max. you can afford is one 4033, NT-2, C3000B or AM11...

Probably more than I would have spent! I was lucky enough to have friends with friends, etc... But I wouldn't have known if I didn't ask. I was lucky.
