i use a Rode NT1-a for recording vocals run through a Presonus bluetube dp.
i'm thinking of buying a Rode k2 as another option for vocals.
basically i'm wondering how different the sound would be as the k2 is a tube mic, but the nt1-a is going through a tube pre?

if anybody has experience with these mics, i'd appreciate ur thoughts, cheers

I listened to K2, the NTK and the NT1a through an Avalon Channel Strip awhile back using HD280Pro Headphones. The K2 is a much nicer sounding mic IMO. Both are bright. I preferred the NTK Tube as it was warmer sounding
than the K2. Would be nice to have both :D
You'll still need a pre for the K2 even though it has a tube but I think you know that already.;)

I bought the K2 this past December - excellent sounding mic. You'll want to upgrade the mic's 6922 tube though, to get rid of some of that brightness (if it doesn't work well with your voice, which it didn't with mine). Affter upgrading to a NOS Telefunken tube, the top end rounded out, but is still very much alive. Search for threads by kidvybes regarding tube swaps, as he was the one who had the best recommendations for what to look for - I ended up paying far more for the Telefunken than I should have... was worth it, but you can get a better deal (around 40 bucks for a decent replacement).

While the K2 is a great tube mic for the price, it may not be the answer. You may want to look at a pre upgrade. For about the same price as the K2 you could get a UA Solo 610 The 610 is a "real" tube pre. If you already have a decent mic, another one may not be the answer. Just a thought.

This is actually a good point. I was upgrading to a K2 from an MXL 990

Quite a difference for me even through my DMP-3 and Firepod.
