Rocktron Velocity 300: pop noise on power-on/off

Hi,

I just bought a Rocktron Velocity 300 poweramp. Whenever I turn it on or off, a 'pop' noise goes through my speakers. The 'pop' is quite loud. If I power off the unit with the volume turned to 0, I don't have the 'pop'. The volume makes no difference when turning the unit on, the 'pop' is always there.

Is this normal or should I exchange the unit?

I did read it is normal for some amps (especially older ones?) to have this kind of behavior, but I find it a bit weird since the manual describes how the unit has some special protection to make sure no pops or thumps occur when the power is cut.
I also found different people saying they either have it or don't have it with the Rocktron, which makes me even more confused.

Note that I tested this with nothing connected to the unit except for the speakers.

This is the LAW that everyone has to live by ........ Power amplifiers turn on last in your chain and off first with the volume turned to zero every time.
Or we'll have the Audio Police over there real soon. Got IT?

Yes I know that, that's why I indicated that I have the 'pop' when only using the Rocktron and the speakers, no preamp or anything ;). So no need to call the Audio Police :p.

I think the unit is defect, as I also noticed that after a while the volume suddenly drops considerable (certainly high frequencies), and the ventilation never turns on (although it should after about half an hour according to Rocktron support). It is going back to the store!

Sounds like a ka ka unit to me. I'll send an officer around anyways to check up on you.
