does anyone know how to rewire or set speakers out of phase so that a vocalist can record listening to speakers without much bleed? if there an easy solution to this? is there a software solution that could be made that could send out a different signal left and right? hope to see some response soon. if not, does anyone know the best technique for recording listening to speakers rather than headphones?

willie nelson tracks vox like this.

just cut your speaker cord, and flip it (twist the wrong ones together)
ta-da, bad phaze.

then go buy a new speaker cord, cause you just runed your old one.

be very careful about the mic being equally-distant from the monitors, and becareful how they face.
get out the tapemeasure, nomatter what you do thare will still be a little blead.

could you explain a bit more about "putting the wrong ones together"... the speakers I currently have have two wires running to an rca jack that go into the sound card or stereo...

i.e ..... if you have red and black speaker wire (for instance) cut the speaker wire and reconnect the red to black and the black to red.

Flip the wiring is all.

What kind of speaker/power amp setup do you have???

personally, I would rather have an in phase bleed in a mic at a louder volume than out of phase bleed in the mic. I also don't see how this would really help the situation. I can not imagine trying to record to a mix that was out of phase, it would drive me nuts. Also remember, running speakers out of phase does not change the actual SPL much, just how we perceive it with our ears and brain. In the end, running them out of phase would probably mean you will have to turn the speakers up so he/she can hear them better. Be careful to not damage your dirvers. You have to remember that thos little drivers are going to move just as much out of phase as in phase, but will seem like they are a much lower volume. This makes it very easy to exceed the maximum excursion on your LF elements, or lock up a diaphragm. On a side note, there have been many bands that have done studio stuff with both PA Mains and monitors running to give them more of a stage feeling.

Just make sure the speaker is in the absolute null of the mic. This might be a good application for a figure 8 mic. I would also low-cut the monitors severely, because mics are less directional at low frequencies. It would help to have a dead room, so speaker reflections are kept out of the mic.
