Reduce Noise on unbalanced inputs

i just got an m-audio firewire soundcard...its a great sound card with the exception it only has unbalanced inputs, so i have it connected with rca's to my event tr6 monitors...consequently i'm experiences more low level noise from the unbalanced inputs then b4 when they were running through balanced...is there anything that can be done to help reduce noise? or am i SOL?

Keep the cables short and away from power cords; use good quality cable with good shielding.
