thx.

try downloading audacity or kristal audio engine at one of these adresses:

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
http://www.kreatives.org/kristal/

They're both free software for recording music, and they're both a good place to start your career as a homerecorder.. :)

You need to connect whatever you want to record to your computers soundcard, if it is a standard soundblasterwhatever type soundcard there is a probably a line in minijack, that you have to connect to through a correct cable with a minijack or jack and minijack adaptor and one end, and connectors that fits whatever you are connecting in the other end..

Ideally if you want to get into recording seriously, you need a soundcard that is made specifically for recording, but they aren't that expensive anymore..

What is it that you want to record..?

well im recording dance music i have the lead that goes from my mixer to the computer but when i asked the man in the shop he said one side goes into the mixer and the other side goes into were the headphones should go because we have a laptop or is that a proplem ?

thx for ur help

Hi again danny..

sorry, but i'm not sure if I understand what your problem is..? what is it that you are recording (synth?mixer output?keyboard?), and how do you have it connected to your computer???

well im recording my mixer the music that i mix with the mixer i want it to be able to record on to the the laptop so i can burn it and make cds.i have a lead with one end that has two parts a white end and a red end and on the other side of the weird it connect into the side of the laptop were you woud uaslly plug the head phones in to.(think its called a audio lead :S im not sure though)

thx

Umm, No. You don't want to plug it into the Headphone port. That would be an output. You need to plug into the Line In (if equipped) or Mic In.
Problem with most laptops and the microphone input is that it may only be a mono input and rather cheap circuitry at that.
You would likely do a bit better by investing in a decent external soundcard.
For what you are trying to do, you could likely get by with one of the lessor expensive USB options.
