HI

I am trying to record from the MiniDV with 16Bit audio to my Hi-Fi VHS the picture is ok and the sound on the mono is normal level, but poor. The hi-fi play back is very quite, but good quality. When recording the level looks good.
On playback I hardly see a light on the meter.

I did turn the auto level off and use the
manual recording level. I did record at audio at max. input. The play back is much louder but only right channel?

What is wrong here?

Few Questions.

Is the hi-fi level always lower than the poor quality mono VHS?

Why when recording I see output
is good but in playback the level is much lower?

When I increase the record level, I only get the right channel?

Try a different VCR. If you're levels look good on the meters on playback, then the problem is post tape... ie bad wire, bad connector, etc. What are you going to after the VCR?

You got it !

I tried a pre-recored tape with a hi-fi track. It had the same problem playback low and none/little left signal.

I assume that 3 pre-recored tapes would be recored ok. Hence the problem must be L-Hi-fi head/cable not working on play back.

I will try the tape in another hi-fi VCR.

Time for a new VCR!

I am sending my buddy a Hi-Fi tape of singer we both know.

You might just need the heads cleaned. The Hi-Fi heads are on the rotating drum. Don't use one of those abrasive cassette type cleaners.
