recording of ambient low frequencies

finrot,
I read an interview some years ago with Jimmy Page and he was talking about the possibilities of subsonic energy. Knowing his much-publicized interest in the occult and Alistair Crowley in particular, could it have been Crowley was interested in, or researching this as well. Just a thought, I'll have to try to dig this up and see.

peace.

Finrot, I am sure a Harley Davidson just standing there idling might do it, hehe. Yeah , I have managed to recreate a very low frequency sound by doing the following.:

I recorded a overdriven bass on just the E note, then layerd it a few times and then I just detuned and detuned it digitaly untill it was roundabout 40hz. It sounds killer. I am sure you if I just detuned it until it was about 2-15hz that would be a good option. It will have to stay in digital format though I guess.

To recreate it: I believe that at raves they have type of bass pipes or snakes. Apparently these are long tubes that output very low beat frequencies (innaudible) with the idea that you feel the beet through the air pressure and the floor.

And oh yeah, I stay in Largs, Ayrshire. I was in artschool too, am a graphic designer, where and when is this exhibition? I am quite interested.

Hi,

Sorry I've not replied sooner, I've been away.

re: Snake pipes, sounds possible. Bose in the USA make a product that is a long pipe with a bass driver in it. A tube physically as opposed to electronically amplifies the sound. That much I've allready achieved.

re: Exhibition, I'm on the post-grad program at Glasgow, our interim exhibition is mid/late May. Our final show is usually (no garantees) at Tramway in Glasgow, but that won't be 'till June 2002 for me.

Anyone who wants to be kept up to date just e-mail me.

See ya.

Hmm, wjat is FM synth software?

I've been using an elderly version of sound edit 16...crap, I hate it, and am about to start using cubase 3 and also pro tools free. Sound edit can generate the ferquencies, that's what I've been using, is that what you meen or does "fm synth" mean something that I dont understand??

End of thread?

Hi yer All,

OK, progress so far:

The large speaker case and 18" driver is NO WAY loud enough. I put a test signal through it and could feel it, just. It's been suggested that I may need to displace the air through a more mechanical method. 6' diameter diaphram anyone?? :)

Recording wise I'm still trying. All the Mac based software I've tried is less than satisfactory. I'll keep looking and if the worst comes to the worst I'll borrow a PC :(...

Just kidding :)

Big thanks to MD for his e-mail, he suggested that I should try using a condensor mike with a large diaphram. So the next step is likely to be a huge skin that could double as mike and speaker.

Mucho thanks to all who helped suggest stuff, e-mail me if you want info or updates or whatever.

Bye for now.

Ben.
