My band has been making demos for fun for a couple months now, I'm looking to upgrade my setup enough so that I can record 3 or 4 separate tracks at once. We're on a real tight budget (we're 15 year olds) and we only have like 150 bucks in our whole band fund right now. Currently I mic the drums, bass, and guitars to a little Mackie DFX6 and run that into the line input of my soundcard, and edit with N-Track. (I add extra guitar parts and vocals later.) I've tried recording the drums alone and then adding the bass on its own track and then the guitars, but it just ends up sounding confused and we're not together. So I'm deducing that we're going to need a multiple input soundcard (like this one?). My question is, how do I hook up the mixer to the inputs of the soundcard? There's only one line output on the mixer. Am I going to have to buy a new mixer? Or, should I save up and use the mixer for the drums only and buy separate preamps for each guitar, and run each pre into it's own input on the soundcard (if that's possible). Any help would make my day.
Thanks,
-Mike
