I'm doing some solo indie rock stuff and am having some trouble getting a good overdriven guitar sound.

Not to be a dick, but it's kind of ironic someone is trying to be a solo independent artist by sounding like someone else.

OK ill admit it, i actually love the sound of creeds grandpa after a massive bong rip. And also im sorry to all emo musicians i have offended. Emo will never die it will be the one genre that lasts forever and it will never seem cheesy looking back after a decade or two. And writing songs with random parts without regard to composition is actually better than knowing what youre doing. Ive been fooling myself this whole time trying to figure out what makes songs good. I should have been figuring out what sub genre of indie i am and shopping at guitar center and uploading my worthless works in progress to myspace so that fat chicks can leave comments on my page.

Bah.

I knew this thread would be toast as soon as I saw it was called "recording indy rock" posted by "emomusician" -thats asking to be crucified.

To me, Indi rock refers to stuff from the late eighties and early nineties like Mudhoney, Pavement, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion etc... and i think maybe we should start using the term post-indy, for stuff like the Strokes and White Stripes. but thats just me.

And mic your amp. Forget about pods. that goes for any style of music
