HI, I am a solo artist and I wish to start recording my songs. I want to record Vocals, guitars, bass and drums. I can record the vocals, guitar and bass at home but for the drums i have to go to the rehersal studio. I am wondering what type of equipment would suit my situation best, ither analog or digital? and what would give me the best results for demo purposes. I have being considering using my computer or just getting a for track? can somebody please give me some advice and some equipment ideas please? the type of music I am wanting to record is of heavy rock style(Tool, Sonic youth, pixes, etc)

we have similar styles and are in similar situations.

Our style: Symphony X, Tool, Dream Theater

Our problem:

Apartment property managers aren't nice to drummers.

Our solution:

Pintech electronic drum kit with Roland TD-8 drum brain.

They sound awesome.

Certainly better than farting around with fruit loops to 'emulate' a drummer.

Also, much more convenient. Just picture playing at 12:00am and the people in the next room sleeping like babies!!!

also, electronic drums are easy to mic!! (no mike necessary .. straight into mixer baby!)

later doode

On of the Roland digital 8 tracks would be good for what you want to do. How much can you spend? Do you have any gear already? You will also need mics and monitors at the very least.

thanx, i am wanting to spend as little as possible for a machine/s thaty will give me good quality demos. i know this can range from about $300 to god knows what, i'm looking to spend about say $300 - $800 on a machine and about $200 on mics. I do not want to use a drum machine though i just think you cant beat the sound of live drums, i do not have any recording equipment apart from a couple of shure sm57 mics which i would like to use for recording. how does the digital systems work? do you record and mix on them then hook it up to something else to get a master out or what?
