Recording Advice Needed

Personally I don't see the hype from people starting out about needing 8+ inputs, when working with live kits I use 4 mics normally, (or 4 Busses if the Drummer wants to feel like I'm getting it all) Left, Right overheads, Kick and Snare and drummers who've seen me put up 8+ and love the sound never really realise that I've only used 4 tracks :P. The Simpler the better bud. As for Mic Choice, I love SM57's on Snares but I used them Live when I was in my punk heyday *sigh's nostalgically* and something like a AKG D11 on kick and just two decent SD Condensers as Overheads Suit this man Perfectly.

I record live shows with 2 guitars and bass and all 3 singing. would leave me with 2 tracks left for drums if I only had 8. I like to run an omni mic on a track too to record audience and have the option to add to mix for ambience instead of using a verb plug. :spank:

Just an update.... I got the Tascam 1641 the other day and, after working out all the cakewalk kinks, it sounds great. I appreciate everyone's advice....
