If anybody has any questions what so ever regarding Propellerheads REASON, please feel free to ask. I am more than happy to answer. I have been working with Reason as a PROFESSIONAL for 2 1/2 years now. I have sold my MPC, I put the SP1200 in storage years before that, and I only use one keyboard as a controller. I've produced an entire CD using REASON, and several songs, two of which appears on the WestSide Connection's CD "Terrorrist Threats" (Pimp the System & So Many Rappers in love) The mixes you hear on that CD are the TWO TRACK EXPORT STRAIGHT FROM REASON!!! I am also a BETA tester for REASON 3.0 Look out for it!! Its gonna be crazy!!!!

I would like to get to know the Cats using REASON.

Sup man? I use Reason 2.5 wired into Cubase SX. I mainly only use Redrum tho.

Cool! I am finding more and more people using Reason instead of "real world" Synths and samplers. We did a live show and the setup I had with Reason was incredible! Plus with the new stuff coming for 3.0, Reason is gonna be even hotter. Is there somewhere here we can post beats and stuff? I'm new...

Wow...

I have misplaced my original Reason sounddisk and I can't get it to load or run without it. I received this from a friend and am now trying to reinstall it on a new computer. Is there anything that I can do to get up and running? Not sure where to start but I would like to incorporate Reason into my ProTools setup. Have no Reason background so any help you may be able to provide will be greatly appreciated.

Brian

The first thing you'll have to do is get the Install Software and both the Factory Sound Bank, and Orkester CDs. You need all three to install on a new cpu.

Reason Intergrates perfectly into Pro-Tools using ReWire.

I used Reason 2.0 (and only that) to produce a demo and got a record deal. The cd will probably be done by may. I got a few tracks featured on comps already. I'll post some tracks when the CD is out.

I didn't even have a midi controller back then and I used to run Reason on a 450MHz with 64MB of RAM and an intergrated, sucky soundblaster PCI 128 card.

Reason=awesome tool.

I use Reason 2.5 and I love it!
It amazes me when I hear people dog Reason out, calling it a toy......
Reason has helped my Music sound 100% better! I am not a great Keyboardist, but Reason allows me to layer tracks and just create. Change bass lines and chords like "Padowww"........Is the Key to getting the ill drum beats acquiring refills? I have heard some drum beats made in REDRUM that made me like, "How do you get quick bass n snare licks like that"?
I will be PMing you with questions from time to time, any assistance you can afford will be cool............Good Look!

Yeah...rush if you got soundclick...You could just post a link..if not registration is free at soundclick.com

I had reason for awhile..
whoever said it was toy should look at how much harddrive space it was...

aint no fruity loops ova here patna!

nah but I uninstalled it, for HD space reasons......lol

i've been using reason since 2.5 dropped and it's insane what you can do with it. love the subtractor for heavy bass. same with the malstrom....it's crazy the stuff you can get out of that thing by playing with it. the rex's.....c'mon man toy!?!?yeah right. waiting for 3.0 so i can cop the upgrade.

I'm a new Reason user, for about 2 months and I have to say this s*** is incredible. I to heard all types of stories of how it's to easy to use and considered a toyish type production tool. I disagree with those naysayers. It's easy as hell to use I will admit that, but it's a good thing for the electronic musicians out there that's trying not to wrap themselves up with a lot of techie bulls*** and get on to making music. If you think it's a toy then don't use it, PLAIN AND SIMPLE!!!

ive been using reason 2.5 for a while now too...if youre interested in hearing anything ive done with the program theres a link in my signature but thats not why i posted...i really just want to know how to really utilize all the features of reason. i use nnxt, nn19, subtractor, malstrom, and dr rex but i havent really messed with any of the effects units...are these really useful or important? any suggestions to really utilize the entire program? also, is there a way to slice samples in reason? i guess perhaps by making .rex2 files, but how do you do that? my final question is where to find the best bass refills, samples for reason. we've bought and downloaded several refills and expiremented with the soundbanks for reason but still cant find the perfect basses for hip-hop instrumentals. any feedback would be greatly appreciated. prec.

Same with me...

However, I'd like to know where to get my hands on some dope Dr. Rex files?

Anything really... Drums, synths, strings, etc... I bought a couple refills before, and was severely disapointed with them.

Anyone know where to cop the dope Dr. Rex files?

I'm using 2.5 by the way...

awesome! i've got reason 2.0, but i don't know how to use it yet. i figure i'll go throught the pdf's and that should get me up to speed with using it. however, i've wanted an mpc 2000xl because that what hear that all the professionals use in created those tight kick drum sounds you hear in most hip-hop songs. then, a friend told me that i didn't need any drum machine at all, and that i can make any kind of drum sound or kit using reason. i was floored. i've had this program, along with frooty loops, soundforge and others for a very long time, but never bothered to used them because i figured that i needed a korg triton studio workstation or a yamaha motif es and an mpc to even THINK about making an instrumental. the computer was just to be a tool to record with....

i have a yamaha psr 530 keyboard and an ibanez bass guitar, production software that i mentioned above, and my computer. that's it. now, my questoin is: can i forget about the mpc all together? what are the pros and cons? i also hear that i can record and edit tracks from live instruments in reason.

pls advise.

thanx

yes the effect units are insane......you can bend sounds to anything you want.ya just gotta know how to use em. 2 books that will teach you all you need to know............

"REASON 2.5 POWER"by Michael Prager($30)....is A-Z on every module, effect, the sequencer etc.It explains the funtion for about every single button or knob on the screen and how to use it.mass tutorials. i can't stress enough how important this book is.

Also "Power Tools for Reason 2.5" by Kurt Kurasaki($25) is a tech manual and tutorial(not a straight read through) on how to route several effect processors and modules together to get loads and loads of effects. It has really easy to read diagrams and step by step sections. This is for anyone who wants to really understand the effects.

Another thing........why does this board have no dedicated Reason section??
Surely there are enough people using it that would justify having it's own area.

But for those that don't know there is a site called
reasonfreaks.com. it's strictly a reason site. alot of propellerhead stuff.
and reasonstation.com is an alright one.
also the propellerhead site propellerheads.se

i love it and lived it,,,i started with rebirth long time ago and back then i was always complaining why rebirth doesnt have this and that blah blah blah,,,
then came reason that was it,
nowadays i have my evolution mk461c and a powerfull computer and just ordered presonus firebox.
also my setup has decent event monitors, behringer autocom pro compressor, denon dnx1500 mixer, 2 technics m5g turntables.
reason is almost endless production software its getting bigger with every release. i was thinking about buying akai mpc1000 and i still havent changed my miind. i think hardware and software can be used together to get more creative results. from my knowledge and little experience every hardware and software has a personality. so these things are like humans. all has unique sides that could be used in different productions. dont underestimate any of them:)

Nice work Rush!
That "Gotta Realize" Joint is hot! Is that done in Reason too? I got most of the other instruments in Reason down, but I still need to work on some of my drums. What type of Refills do you use for drums and where do you get them? I like to use different ones to experiment, but I use it as a base. Then I put my own over it in REDRUM and fade them joints out because I don't want my stuff sounding like anyone else's.
I'm feeling your flow though Son !

yea i was wondering the same thing about the refills...do you have any favorites? i know theres so many out there but i want to find the best ones for hip-hop instrumentals - accapella's, good tight basses, samples, dr rex loops, etc. it would be really helpful if someone could tell me what the best refills are for hip-hop and where to get them. those beats are incredible by the way i hope i get that good at reason someday. oh yea i have that second book about reason 2.5 but its all way over my head it might as well have been written in arabic. i guess someday ill actually take the time to read it word-for-word and follow it as best as i can.

In my HONEST opinion (and again opinions are like a**holes- everyone has one), I believe that for Hip Hop/Rap applications the Factory stuff is very soft. The Factory Sound Bank stuff just isn't heavy enuff. I took a couple days and transferred all my MPC Samples both drums and loops to Reason using AWAVE Studio 7. Its a conversion program that will convert the SND format to wav or aiff which ever u prefer. For bass I sampled the Korg Triton and looped it using Zero X-looper. What I tried to do was replicate my actual studio in Reason. I would suggest getting sounds the old fashioned way... STEAL THEM!!! HAHAHAH I mean sample the drum sounds. I rigged a line from my laptop headphones plug to the input of my audio card. That way I can sample CDs pretty much the same way I used to sample vinyl. Normalizing the Drum sounds helps also. Whenever possible, I try to use custom sounds. There are a lot of cool drum sounds available from MPC Beats, Sonic Implants, etc... I buy from them alot.

As Far as rex files, I sample from CD and chop them up using ReCycle. On that Track "Gotta Realize", the hits where old records just chopped with effects added (If you haven't check it out, visit http://www.soundclick.com/bands/5/bigrushmusic.htm).

Remember REASON IS NOT MAGICAL!!! If you suck on the MPC, Reason isn't gonna make you Kanye West!!! The key is to learn every single thing u can about the software so you can exploit it to your benefit. Reason is a tool so you still ahve to put in the hours to make hot joints. If you're doin 15 tracks a day, or a week for that matter, you're probably making mediocore tracks. Again some may disagree, but I've learned that ANY joint thats sound Original, Hot, and Well mixed takes longer than an hour to achieve! So take your time and read the ENTIRE manual.... I learned everything about Reason from reading the manual at LEAST 3 times! LOL!! I'm a high school drop out like Kanye!! LOL!!! Thanks for the compliments (or the hate I accept both!) If I can share some advice, or a couple sounds hit me up at Harvey@wallbangerz.com

Peace!
