A friend of mine has quit his day job, sold his tools and his truck and has spent a small fortune on recording gear......he is now going everywhere to try and sell his cd................maybe its just me but, I think it sucks....he wanted me to put his songs up on sound click for him......I put up one, and left his name off of everything........please give a listen and tell me if i should tell him that he sucks and is wasting his time.

If anything sucks it's his recording and production techniques. The song itself is OK, but the audio quality is lacking.

Be a friend and buy a CD.
I got one for free......this is why I'm torn.....he is a good friend but, listened to no-one on his production values and how important it is to stay sober while mixing and playing.........I may offer to do a re-mix and try to clean it up a bit!!

Drum beats & vocals start out kind of loose, but it does start to smooth out as it goes, I think you're right, that demon alcohol is involved in the mix for sure LOL!

I won't say it sucks...as I agree with Mad....needs work, but has potential. Reminds me a bit of Monster Magnet....which I like. Needs some taming. I'm not at home right now, but I think you could make it much better pretty easily. What stuff do you have at your disposal to mess with?

needs polish, but more interesting than my own stuff.
I've heard less interesting stuff on the radio.
ditto on the sober.

I dont have any of the session files....just the cd
Do you use software to mix with? If so, simply put it in there, and use some compression to try and tame the peaks some. It might make it sound a bit more cohesive. Worth a try.

This doesn't sound too bad, like people said it has potential, but it's very badly produced. You might check if you're friend has any problems he seem to be living the manic style of life, but hey that's just me guessing a bit.

Some important things:
1. The songs is great, as someone say, much better tha most some radio suff.
2. The drums are terrible. Not talkng about execution but recording. If you're on a budget I recommend to record with sampled drums (*mortal silence*) Yeah, it's better to have sampled BFD drums than have them sounding like shit.
3. In some parts the guitar solo have too much presence and go out of the mix.

Maybe the idea is to record and mix it again.

yep. agree with all of the above, great tune, great band, good rock voice.

sounds like it has been recorded in a damp basement on a fostex tape 4-track though.

not that there's something wrong with that sound ... in 1982!!!

:D

This could be the victum for the next mixing contest.

Could be a good song, needs alot of work first.

i dont think its good enough (or has potential) for one to quit their day job.

but im not one to kill dreams. we are all in the same boat.

c'mon, fess up, there is no "friend". this is yours, right?

it's not as bad as you made it out to be. I think it needs a chorus. It's got a nice verse that builds up, but it builds up to nothing. If you (he) threw in a great hook/chorus I think you'd have something here.

it does need some production work. the vocals were kinda spotty too, although not bad. if you (he) just started and this is the first thing you (he) produced, then you're (he's) not doing too bad at all. keep at it is what i'd say.

MadAudio probably said it best - it's a pretty good tune but it needs some work on the production.

If this was live I'd say it was pretty good - rough around the edges which is typical for live (mostly towards the beginning of the song).

I like the bite in the guitar sound but felt it could use more bottom end.

Drums weren't great sounding.

But the playing/singing was pretty good overall. I like the vocals with the low/high parts.

yeah...I know this sounded like a brady bunch thing but....it is a friend! Hard headed kinda guy........gets a thought and you can't knock it loose with a hammer. Calls me all the time wanting info on how to record this or that and that kind of info really can't be relayed on the phone.....when I try to show him.....its like talking to a wall. I want to help but, he makes it difficult to do so..........btw...not my style of music...you can find mine in my sig line......it sucks too!!!!!!!

Is he gigging to support himself or is he just trying to live off the sale of CD's????

he is trying to live off cd sales......pretty much going door to door with it!

The drums are the weak link here, but not a bad song and could for sure be tweaked to get a better overall mix. A new mix could give this song life :)
