HI,

I purchased a 12-string acoustic over the weekend and i put a set of new strings on it (ernie ball 12 string slinky) and there is high e string is buzzing at the 3rd fret!!

Any one know the cause and solution to my problem. It was fine with the set of strings that came on it.

Thanks

12 string necks will bend as you bring it up to tune. 12 strings are a lot of pull on the neck and bridge. So that said,

1. you may have put lighter strings than were on before
2. If you are drop tuning at all that can cause it as well

I have accoustic and electric 12s. You need to have them set up for a particular type and guage of strings. All of my doubleneck's strings drag until you get it within 1/2 step of tune.

If it's only the 3rd fret that's buzzing then your frets may not be levelled properly. A fret nearby maybe rising up a bit out of the slot.

Either this or the neck is not at the angle it should be (trussrod adjustment perhaps).

Also, look at the nut slots. Are they cut too deeply? Is the bridge (saddle) to high or low.

In your case, I would look for a fret that is not levelled properly first. Either take it to a repairman or get a very accurate short-length straight edge and see if you you can find the problem fret. You may need to have it levelled.

Take it to a good repair person, and have them look at it. Trying to diagnose stuff like this over the internet is like trying to have a doctor take an X-ray when you are inside a lead lined concrete bunker. I have no idea what is wrong, and neither does anyone else here. Let me lay my hands on it, and I can give you an answer.
