R-dat?

Hello, Got a DAT Recorder..cheap..Probably should have been free! The more I learn. So I'm clueless about this "R" in the term R-DAT. The unit is an Otari DTR-8S. The manual says to use R-DAT Tape. It came with no tape, So I need at least one to test it out. My question is does it have to be a special R-DAT tape or will any DAT tape do?

All DAT is R-DAT. The R is for rotating head like a VCR as contrasted to stationary head like a cassette deck.
