questions on getting second mic w/ sm57 for recording distortion.

Hell just get another 57 and use a stereo placement on your amp. Cheap, and it'll sound great.

If you don't like the sound you're getting, chances are that you need to give attention to the guitar/pedals/amp part of your chain rather than the mic. If you're getting good sounds from the amp but just don't like what the 57 alone is doing, look into a condenser mic to use in conjunction with a single/pair of 57's. Which one depends on your budget and tastes, but some searches here should give you some ideas. The AT4033 is very good for this application, but there are others as well.

i havent recieved the 1st sm57 yet,i should get it in a week also am happy with whats coming outta the amp,im just contemplating
getting another one to improve the sound of recorded distortion.

There ain't no such thing as "better". There is "better for your needs". If you have a nice soundning room, A condenser a few feet away from the amp will give you some awsome sounds. Personaly, I love it. I had good results with an MXL 1006. If your doesn't sound as good, you might want another SM-57. If you have a dual speaker amp, you can put a '57 on each speaker. Hell, you can do that, and still use a condenser a few feet away.
Just try, and decide what you like.

Yeah, a 57 right up in the speaker and a condensor mic a few feet away can give you a real nice sound. There are so many good condensor mics for cheap now. I won't be the one to tell you what to get! Have fun!
