...anyone else who might know. I know Jeff worked selling hi-fi equipment a while back so thought maybe he'd know. But, I have a Pioneer reciever from the 70s and in back it's got two pair of stereo rca jacks that are connected with a removable bridge, they are labled "Pre Out" and "Main in". Just wondering if you knew what functions these served. Maybe they could be useful for something.

HI Steve,
I am attaching photo-cut from a different receiver of the same bunch with "better naming" of those jacks :)
(since the photo was 'stolen' from OakTree, I think it's appropriate to post the link to their site here, so here it is: http://www.oaktreeent.com/index.htm)
You can get a silver face pioneer equalizer and replace those jumpers with it for more pleasures :) Or what ever you may think of, connect pre outs to a different power amp for example.
here's the photo:

Sorry if I don't answer your question but speaking of the link there, and most notably, about the seller iavscanada ... They also own a store http://www.iavscanada.com/ and I've been there several times, just a short drive and I can tell you to be careful, no matter the seller's feedback, 'cause the stuff that I saw and also bought several things, have been overpriced crap, from some of the most ignorant, rude individuals this side of town. The owner is a damn idiot and the sales guy there is no better either. They lead you to believe that they "service" the stuff prior to selling but that is not true from what I have seen. In the past year or so, I've bough a couple of turntables, a power amp and a cassette deck, all with minor to major problems with oily / rusty crap in the interior. All the other stuff I've seen on the shelves, didn't look that good either, save a thing or two. Be aware that they're basically a "pawn" store which sells old crap, people don't want. Hey, you might get a break and get a nice score but it's a gamble.

As I recall

These are jacks that connect the preamp from the power amp section to allow you to insert outboard signal processing equipment. Stand alone EQ, decoders of various sorts, and everything else under the sun. You can pick up for a mono sub here too.

An easy test is to remove the jumpers and see if you get anyting from the power amp.

Hey Mike, Daniel and Ethan, thanks for the replies. Ethan what do you mean by "pick up for a mono sub"?

Daniel, I believe it if you say he's a thief. I'm not looking to buy though, I already have that reciever I was just using the link for the picture.

Completely understood Steve but I was just putting it outthere just in case..:D;)

sub woofer

There were/are sub woofer amps that have 2 inputs (for the left and right channels). They do a low pass filter and mix the 2 channels together than send it to the single sub woofer amp and speaker..

Ok, I see what you're saying. Thanks!
