Question for Ethan........

Hi mate, I've been reading your bass trap plans page and I was wondering, Is there any reason why you couldn't use the same design but make the whole thing a sealed unit so it could be moved around? Or is it necessary to have the trap aganst the wall for the mass?

I think that he mentioned before that it can be done. The back of the trap must be thicker and have more mass than the front. So I guess that would mean a very thick heavy peice of plywood.

I am also wondering if one could use inch and a half fiberglass instead on one inch?

They can easily be made portable. That's how I built mine.

Ian: Yes, as TJ said you can do this if you make the back massive enough.

TJ: 1-1/2 inch rigid fiberglass ought to work okay.

It's impossible to know without building some and testing them. My gut feeling is that's the minimum thickness you could get away with.

Thanks Ethan, I really appreciate your help. I think what I'll do then is mount as many as I can to the walls and then make a few "mobile" ones for the areas that are a bit less accessable
Hopefully, with any luck it should do the trick.
