Question for Ethan........

Hi mate, I've been reading your bass trap plans page and I was wondering, Is there any reason why you couldn't use the same design but make the whole thing a sealed unit so it could be moved around? Or is it necessary to have the trap aganst the wall for the mass?

Cheers,

Ian.........

I think that he mentioned before that it can be done. The back of the trap must be thicker and have more mass than the front. So I guess that would mean a very thick heavy peice of plywood.

I am also wondering if one could use inch and a half fiberglass instead on one inch?

Ian: Yes, as TJ said you can do this if you make the back massive enough.

TJ: 1-1/2 inch rigid fiberglass ought to work okay.

Ian,

> So how thick are we talking for the back? Would 3/4" mdf be enough? <

It's impossible to know without building some and testing them. My gut feeling is that's the minimum thickness you could get away with.

Thanks Ethan, I really appreciate your help. I think what I'll do then is mount as many as I can to the walls and then make a few "mobile" ones for the areas that are a bit less accessable :)
Hopefully, with any luck it should do the trick.

Cheers,

Ian........
