I have a zoom sT-224. I am about to purchase a smart card reader/writer so that I can transfer .wav files directly to the smart card, then pop that into my sample track and load. My curiosity is that when you purchase the smart cards, you have to format them in the sample track first before you can dump any data to them. Will smart card reader/writers recognize the formatting from the st-224 so that I can load .wav files to it from my pc?

The short answer: Yes.

That's how such cards are used --- I have an MPC 1000 that uses Compact Flash cards in the same way.

Thanks alot man! I wanted to be sure. I've had the sampler for awhile and all I ever did was resample sounds that I would purchase. With this reader/writer, I can just load the sounds on the smart media card with minimal hassle.

Thanks again! :-)

I have a st-224

I tried to do this with mine.

I couldnt get the card to read.
Hopefully you get better results.
and it isnt a manufacturing flaw.

The sampler is relatively cheap.
But i absolutely love it.

Let me know the details if you get this to work.
It would be amazingly useful.

good luck.

yea, I looked at the manual and it says it should work as long as I put the .wav files in the root of the card. I'm assuming not to place it on the card as a folder but all wav files loose on the root of the smart media card. i'll let you know. I just got my smart reader/writer in the mail today. i'm going to test it out on a new smart media card.

Man, I couldn't get it to work either.

The files are wav files. I renamed all of them as 01.wav, 02.wav, etc....as the book instructed to do. I put the in the root of the card as the book says. (no subfolders). I am using xp. I don't know if maybe that has something to do with why the sampler will not recognize the .wav files on the card. I formatted the card in the sampler first, but it does not recognize the wav files. I'm so frustrated. If anyone can help, please do so.

I actually took my sampletrak apart for small repairs.
(resoldered output jack, FX pot.)
Im not digging the mediacard thing. something SERIOUSLY doesnt look right.
Dont know what exactly, but it doesnt look right.

Also, i was thinking, Due to the age of the device,
Maybe the smart media cards,
have different version numbers, (v1.0, v2.0)
And the Sampletrak, only uses the old one. Its a possibility.

I dont know, But i was in the same place,
absolutely pissed that it didnt work the way it says in the manual.

Id send an email to Zoom, and see what they say about it.
Maybe buy a mediacard from them.

Let me know if they reply, what they say and such!
I want to be able to do this too.

Zoom will email you back, but I dont think they do it very promptly. I had to ask them a smart media question myself as a matter of fact, it turned out all I could use was a 64mb card, not the 128mb that I hoped for. At least I got an answer before I bought the larger card~.

You can put wav. files onto smart media, but I don't think the Zoom can read wav. format in any way, shape, or form. Removeable media recorders can barely manage to *export* digital data. By and large, they are not built to import it at all. If you figure out a way to do it, let me know. I'll be very surprised. Usually, formatting is proprietary. I know my Korg Pandora won't do it.-Richie
