Quality of C.D worth marketing?

I have a basement band and i just put out a C.D done mostly on my 4 track. The quality is not amazing even though it was masterd and effects added on a Roland digital worstation in the end and dumped on to cd.It still sound a bit cheap though. Theres 14 songs(punk/alt)which i think is alot, and we do have an audience that says it decent fun stuff to listen to. I dont want to make money i just want to know things like; Is it worth gettin profesionaly duplicated? Should i just make homemade burned copies? Should i charge a couple bucks for it, free? Should i just market it AS a basment recording,it is called 7 Days in the Basement after all. Is this an exceptable demo to "send out"? Any exprience in this field would really help, thanx

Here's What I Would Do...

In fact, it's what I'm doing. Convert the whole thing to MP3 and upload it to either MP3.com or musicbuilder.com.

Then you can have either of these companies burn CD's for whoever is willing to pay the price that you set. They 1-off the CD's as they are ordered, so you don't have to worry about spending $1000 for 500 CD's that are going to sit in your closet for the next 50 years.

I recommend that you check this option out. It's a great way to have your music available to your fans and friends.

If things are on a small level, then continue with the one-offs. I WOuld suggest that you DO charge. Even if it's $2 or $3 bucks. Even if you don't MAke money, at least you should not be losing money. Should this be your demo? I don't see why not. I went the homemade route before moving up to professionally duplicated CDs. I'll say one thing... In all of this, don't sell yourself short. The least that people should do is to give you a couple bucks to cover the cost of the CDR and the wear on your CDR Burner to make these copies. Most "true" fans would be GLad to support you.

If you have people who will buy them, you should be able to get discs pressed up fairly cheaply and make enough money to do something better in the future.

This album isn't going to be your masterpiece, but that's ok. You just need something to sell right now.

Your fans seem to think it's good and that is all that matters in the end.
