OBJECTIVE: Record from my turntables to my computer, WHILE,
monitering from my main speakers.

Equipment: (1) Stanton SK-2F mixer, (2) Technics 1200, (1) Kenwood stereo receiver with multiple inputs/outputs, (1) AMD Athlon 700 with SoundBlaster live soundcard.

Here is what I've tried: RCA to 1/8" from the mixer to the PC. Problem: I can't moniter on my speakers because there is no singnal going to the receiver. I've also tried running RCA from mixer to receiver. Works good....but how do I get that same signal into the PC?

I've had nothing but problems with the soundcard (suprised?) and I'm starting to look into other alternatives. I'm looking for something simple that works. I've been looking into the Tascam US-428 (?) or the newer model that's a bit cheaper. Can anyone recommend (or not) either of those two products?

P.S. I'm pretty much at wits end with this whole project so if anyone has even the slightest to add please do, my head and desk (which I've been beating the former on) will both thank you.

The sound card you have should work fine for what you're trying to do (barring any quality limitations). You need to run a line from your mixer to your sound card, as you have done, and then a line from your sound card to your receiver.

Great answer, elevate. I was going to offer the exact same advice.

round 2....

Thanks for the first round of help. I can get the PC to record by
running a line from my master out on the mixer to the line in on the card. However, I'm not able to get the sound being recorded on the PC to play back through the receiver in real time. I'm running a line from the rear out jack on the card to the receiver. I've tried running it to the CD input, Tape 1 record, Tape 2 record, still no sound. I can get MP3 to play direct fom the PC to the receiver. I just can't moniter my recording. Any advice?

Thanks.

Break it Down, Y'all!

First off you don't seem to mention where you have the turntable hooked to a phono preamp. I'll presume that's the Kenwood??

Test inputs by connecting known live outputs and checking record levels.

Test outputs by routing them to a meter or a live monitor.

Does Winamp work on your system?

I don't remember and I don't have my Soundblaster anymore but you mentioned that you are running a line from the rear speaker outs of the Soundblaster. Is there a setting in the Creative mixer to enable the rear speaker outs?

The SB Live is a full-duplex card, and it should be able to do you just fine.

You should be able to monitor the signal coming in the Line In by merely enabling Line In in the list of sources for playback, in the Windows mixer utility.

Not sure about the rear speaker thing as Randy Yell pointed out, that might be an issue too.

It's always the simple things...

You guys are great, thanks for all the help.
Had to go into the Windoze mixer and un-mute the line in

Thanks again!

Peace.
