Seems like everyone is still going for the straight-forward mix :) I'm gonna try to completely change the style of the song, while still retaining the origional energy and feel.

dammit

haha

hey xFin, I hope you're not expecting feedback on your own remix before giving some out to the hard workin mixers in this thread first ;)

Seriously, I'm sure like myself everyone would value your comments

Alec

well lemon.
it sounded to me like your mix had a big smiley face put across the final eq.
Quite Scooped!
i liked the way you brought out the bass line, that wass cool.
And somehow you got the snares high end to sizzle a little bit, i was havin a time with that.
So i guess knowing what it sounded like initially with nothing on it.
My only criticizm would be you may have over done it on the high end of the eq spectrum.
;)

I'll second that ! :)

Pretty cool version btw...

as for vestast..
i liked the bass line edit! that was surprising.
and you as well as lemon brought out the bass line, that was cool.
youre mix was nicely balanced vestast.
Id say the only criticism id have to offer is that it sounds to me like you may have overcompressed the mix too much.
I heard some "brikwall compressing" when the dynamics were supposed to rise.
Other than that it sounded good though
:)

Thanks for the words !

I was wondering also if perhaps it was overcompressed. I recently bought a UAD-1 card and I'm having a ball with the LA2A and 1176 compressors.....

Sounds like a good idea this mixing competition. Its just a pity that i dont have any software to mix it with. I have cubase sx demo but my computer jerks when trying to play anything. Suppose i could put it into my porta studio, but might take a long time to download parts and transfer to porta studio.

Thanks for the reply. The smiley face EQ...that's just my personal preference, I didn't use any EQ after mixdown, I just mix that way from scratch.

Not the first time I've been told my mixes were too bright but I have to ask...what are you monitoring on? I found both your mixes very dark on my system. There was plenty sizzle on your snare.wav file so it might be your monitors or your room or a combination of both.

I started a fresh mix on the song today and attacked if from a totaly different angle, should be up soon. I'll keep the first one there for refference.

Once again, thanks for giving us all the chance at remixing your tune and thanks for the reply.

ya fin this has been pretty fun. Dunno if my mix will hold up though :( haha. It was fun regardless though.

Rude! can you put this n mp3
I cant do wma on my mac!
But id love ta hear your mix though. :)

Yes you can. Download Windows Media Player (if no one has told you this already ;) )

Well this is not what I normally mix, but hey practice is always good. This is a quick 2 hour interpretation of your song.

Not sure what category this style of music is in.

And BTW your remix is very interesting. Guess I am not a fan of extremely clicky kicks, but hey... :)

Hope you enjoy it. :)

Lemon, I concur, your mix was especially bright.

I dont look at monitors 1st when assessing a mix, I look at the control room. That is normally a MAJOR factor in the overall color of a mix you hear.

Describe your control room and diagram it with what treatments you may or may not have up as well.

Any idea when this is going to be wrapped up? I'm leaving town Wed a.m. and will be without computer access for a couple weeks.

LOL. here is one for yah. My wife like the remix version of the song. Specifically the sped up Lead vocal. She says he sounds much better at the increased Tempo and that your remix is much better than your original version.

Curious, what mike did you use on the lead vox???

and did you adjust the input gain at anytime during the recording process??

Right on!
Vox was recorded with a Royer r121 straight into a digi 002.
As for gain..
I usually dont compress the vocal too much, i do however always auto mate the vocal fader in my mixes to match the songs dynamics. ( I guess thats a form of gain riding?)
take care.

:)

Alec

Id say the reason youd think mine are so dark is
1.Im not adding much eq.
2. I was rushing to get it done because im not competing.
3.I have no idea why . :)

Anyways they are KRK V6 monitors.

nice work though on your mix!
