Caryindy, the file posted in the "entry" site should be fine if nowhere is giving you a hassle. The mp3 is vbr so maybe you've got an old player?

Doug-
nah, it was that Nowhere wasn't letting me stream. Once I logged in and downloaded the file I was able to hear it.

Bennychico- that compressor is pumping. Do you hear it at the beggining of each vocal line?
Is seems the drums are in mono. Did you have the overheads panned right and left?
The instrument levels seem in the ballpark. Cool.

Damn...I need to work on my ear training more I guess. I really have trouble hearing a compressor kicking in. I think this is what hurts my mixes because you aren't the first one to say this about the vocals. And I used a light compression on the vocals. Just enough to control some of they dynamics. Hmmmm....I'm gonna do some more work on it and update it. Thanks for the comments though.
And on the drums, yeah they are panned. I didn't do any hard panning on the overheads like I normally do but everything is panned somewhere except for the kick.

---update--
take a listen to it again will you caryindy. it SHOULD sound at least a little better. like i said, i need to train my ear more. :)

Ok Fellas,

This was not an easy one to work with for me, not having that much experience but it was definately fun. :) You guys have some great mixes out there. You definately put some different twists on your stuff, which was way cool. I used the original tracks givin to me and replaced nothing just did the best I could with the tracks givin. Im sure this could use alot of mastering work in the eq dept, cause its definately not how I wanted it to sound but like I said I did the best I could :) Hope you guys with more experience can tell me what you hear wrong in the mix. I probably wont have time to correct it but its cool to know what others hear since my ears are tired of this one. lol

Good luck
Peace Eddie

[MixComp2 let me know what ya think.

What brand/style compressor are you using benny?

the vocal one was a waves plugin and the rest of the tracks used the Nuendo compressor...and yeah yeah, i know my compression technique needs work :p

Doug H.

Your mix was good.
I think the balance was a little off though due to the bass line being a little overbearing.

Ya, I liked what the bass line has to offer the song. I think rolling more of the deep woof off of it would give me what I want without taking over.

I couldn't do a thing with the overheads because I felt the rides were too loud, and I pretty much removed the top end on the guitar. I was happy with the "groove" I got, but the mix is too muddy overall. The bass ends up being the poster boy for the whole mix.

I might try and squeak a new one in before the deadline. I haven't managed to get the song to sound how I want with the sound stage I want yet.

These contests are great. :)

I've listenned to a few mixes, and downloaded a few more. Comments to come.

here's my 2hrs atempt

i just mixed the song, i did put myself a
2hrs deadline to see how good could i get it in that time.

please tell me what you think.

yes i'm that stone.

about the studio build, mmm...

it's still on hold, i was going to build it to record my band's first release.

we were dealing with warner music for the contract, (they were going to pay for the studio build
instead of renting one), but after hundreds of meetings with the domestic marketing and A&R director,
he went out to emi music, so we decided to take the independent label route.

we choosed to record and mix the album with the studio the way it was, because i already knew my room
very well and didn't had time to learn a new one, then we got it mastered by a pro guy and payed for the
booklet art and everything else on our own.

so we dealed a world wide distribution license with the most important independent label over here,
the album was released nation wide last june and the label negotiated with SGAE to take it to spain,
france and portugal next month, it's been great but as you see i have not had any time left for the studio,
it's still planned for the second album at the end of 2005, be shure i'll be letting you know how it comes out.

i hang up here and at john's site a lot, it's just that i don't post very often

thank's for the interest mate, i apreciate it

Ill be taking the downloads off the server tommorow at 1200am pst.

Peace.

Right on ben!
The next one will be a good challenge.
I think youll enjoy it.

I just snagged a Valley Gatex on ebay...would have come in handy for that tom2 track

.....hindsight ;)

Gates are a good thing.
Only time i use them seems to be on vocals.
Drums once in a while too though.
But not so much.
