Problem with file import and playback

Yesterday i was giving a presentation using Protools 7 Le to show off some work I had done for a school project creating sound for a video game. I went to import in my bounce downs from another project and when i imported them in, i received a error message saying that i had to many tracks and that some would not be available for playback. I only had 10 tracks open and in use.

I was presenting on a PC, and did my work on an Apple, if that helps.

Does anyone know what i did wrong?

Hmm.. My best guess with the info given would be that the PC you were using might have not had the processing power necessary. PT requires a minimum of 1gig.. If the pc you were using was short on ram compared to the parent system then maybe that is it.. Or it could be that the virtual memory is limited on the PC so that no more than x amount gets alotted to any 1 program or overall. Might be able to increase the memory as a fix. That's all I can think of of the top of my head. What are the specs?

The obvious question is...did the bounces import anyway?

i went back to the machine today to see what issues i could figure out. The files did import I had to delete older tracks to get the new imports to play. So, dont know if what exactly was the cause of that error. It has 2 gigs of ram and a high preforming processor. no one else seemed to have this problem either.

Atleast te presentation went well, problems and all.

did you set the compatibility option when you were about to make a new session? thats the only thing i can see as a problem...

VERY unlikely it's would be related to the performance spec of the computer. Pro Tools has a finite number of tracks and it's going to allow for all those tracks to open. Now that said the performance of the computer might ultimately affect how those tracks get played back but not simply opening.

My guess is if Pro Tools is telling you there are too many tracks then there are probably too many tracks.

If it were me and I was doing a presentation I'd damn well have these files "pre imported" before standing up in front of anyone. Is there a reason you didn't?? Was it someone else's Pro Tool session you used during the presentation? Could that session have existing tracks that were hidden in the show hide bin?

When PT tell that are too many tracks he menas that are too many tracks.
It's not a matter of PC/MC or CPU power but only of track/voice count.
