Problem with DM5

Hi, everyone.

I work in a studio where we are using Logic Pro 7. We have a M-Audio Pro-88 Keystation MIDI controller connected to our Mac G4 via USB. We recently acquired an Alesis DM5 module and kit which we connected to a MIDI port of the sound card (RME Hammerfall DSP Digiface). We would like to be able to record MIDI drums parts using DM5 and at the same time a second instrument using Pro-88 (a keyboard player and a drummer jamming). We tried different setups and we were able to achieve that goal but a major problem remains: the Pro-88 is not only triggering the second instrument but also the drums module and we're getting notes from the keyboard part (Pro-88 MIDI controller) inside the drums parts.

Does anyone know why this is happening and how to solve this issue?

Thanks in advance for any suggestion.

I think you have to go into the midi settings on the dm5 and set the midi receive channel. Otherwise it receives midi from all channels.

press the midi button then select chan if the chan parameter is set to 00 the it is in omni mode and receiving from all channels.

Thanks a lot for the reply, Yonce N Mild!

I'll try that as soon as I get back to the studio.

Cheers :D

Hi,

I tried your suggestion, but it didn't help because the MIDI channel was actually set correctly it wasn't on 00 but on 10. It must be something else...
Any other suggestion? Could it be a problem in the MIDI setup of the system, somewhere in Mac OSX? Or is it because the Pro-88 is connected to the computer via USB? Or maybe is it something I did wrong inside Logic? By the way, the DM5 isn't visible anywhere in the computer, is this normal?

Any help would be much appreciated...Thanks in advance.

Regards :)

It's normal not to "see" the DM5 in logic. I'm not too familiar with logic but it sounds to me like you somehow have the keyboard outputting on channel 10. Either on the keyboard itself or somehow in logic. I know in the older version of sonar I used the USB keyboard would output to whatever track I had highlighted no matter what MIDI channel I had it set to. Maybe it's something similar to that?
