I (a rap artist) want to get the mbox 2 factory bundle with pro tools le 7 and i heard thats all you need with a good computer and mic for the type of music I do...is this true?

I have a AKG C3000B condenser mic and ATH-M30 headphones...So if I got mbox 2 with pro tools le 7, specificly what else would I need? HELP PLEASE!:(

NOTE:
I live on the 2nd story of a two story apartment...Im not trying to set up a huge studio really..its just for my personal use and not really anyone else....

I recommend getting Reason 3.0 in addition to what ya said.. You'd pretty much have the core essentials there with all that.. Look around the hip hop subforum.. There are some recent threads that will help you...Welcome..

The nicer the computer the better. Something with a good cpu and ram will be best. But if the software runs fine, you don't need to worry. If the mic sounds fine, you don't need to worry. If you already have everything and it works fine, don't worry about it, just make music.

^^^^ absolutely!!!!

so what you guys are sayin is..

you guys are pretty much sayin that with a good mic, headphones, mbox 2 with pro tools le 7, reason and a good computer..I really dont need anything else?

What about monitors???Or mastering equipment??? Dont I need those??
If so....what do you recommend???

Thanks

Ya.. I missed that.. Monitors would be great.. but headphones will get you by in a pinch.. For example.. If you only had a hundred to drop on your playback device.. I'd go Sony 7506... but if you had more.. well.. then you'd be lookin' for some good monitors... I'm not familiar with the headphones you listed.. those might be on par.. do some searches...

Also take into account whether your are a laptop or desktop user (headphones being portable and all)...

Mastering equipment might not be the best term to use... I'm guessing you're referring to the dynamics' plug-in world... In that case, I'd tell ya to learn the plug-ins in ProTools (and about basic recording/tracking techniques) backwards and forwards before dropping any more dough...

I also wouldn't use the word "need" a lot with recording.... Even the stuff above isn't REQUIRED, really.. It's a convience, quality, compatibility, type thing... See this off-site thread..

You might want to get a MIDI controller for reason as well. Plus when you buy PT 7 with the mbox2, you automatically get Reason Adapted, which is a slimmed down version of Reason. I'd recommend playing with that and seeing if you like it before you go out and spend $350 on Reason 3.0

yea to add on on to the other guy, you don't "need" much of these things. you can get by with headphones, but you will quickly get sick of it. i'd say get a nice pair of active monitors, you can get some great ones for pretty decent prices.

i use alesis mk1 active MKII pair and i love them, especially for only $350 for a pair.

don't forget isolation for the speakers, or you'll get an inaccurate bass level in everything you play back. get mopads.
