Preparing SX for Pro Tools

Hi all,

I've been debating back and forth about this.

I use Cubase SX for my recording, and our band is going to start having sessions with my setup soon. However, we may end up bringing this stuff into a studio and take it from there, so I need to ensure compatibilty.

These studios we're looking at have Pro Tools setups.

What would you SX veterans suggest I do to bring my Cubase sessions to Pro Tools?

(I was just going to export the tracks to different wav files)
 
I don't remember what it is called, but there is a feature you can use that allows you to take all of the files one one track and consolidate them into one .aiff (or whatever you want) file per track. This way you could just copy your audio folder to a DVD-R and import the files easily into PT. That should be a whole lot faster than exporting. Also, if you are exporting and are going to take your files to a bigger better studio, I would recommend that before you do you set all of your putput faders to "0" and take all plug-ins off, and leave them at the source sample rate that you recorded them at. That way you have full mix flexibility at the bigger studio.
 
Cubase can export/import OMF files. Protools can do it too though you have to pay extra for this option. I know by experience that OMF files created by Protools work fine in Cubase. I have heard of a few stories of OMF files created by Cubase not working in Pro Tools.

On eack individual track, insert blank data in between the real data and glue together so that each track spans from left to right locator. Then when you import to protools each audio piece will be in the right place. wav files are good. I spoke to a guy in a studio about this. Bummer is you lose all eq, pan, plug ins etc.

That's what the ProTools rep suggested to me, As we are moving a couple of tracks to another studio town that is currently being constructed, for vocal tracks (She just happened to be there the day I went in to ask about what format ProTools prefered). She said that the OMF file format between SX and ProTools tends to be buggy. She recommended just creating a couple of stem mix tracks that are the length of the entire song (We plan on doing the comping/mixing at Deep Freeze so we only need stem mixes). If you are going to have the whole project finished there that might take a while exporting individual tracks. According to her, ProTools can open a cubase file, and can open a Cubase created OMF file with minimal problems (It is when ProTools has to Import, and then Export again through OMF). If you do use the OMF Translator, the 16 bit version is free (Only the 24 bit version costs money).
 
yeah, easiest way is to just export the different tracks to 24 bit wavs or aiff
with all the same lenght (song length)
