frederic...

How do you get your brother labels to stick? I have the same label printer, but after a few days they start to unwrap (even on clean clean cables)... I've had to resort to putting clear shrink tubing over the label after I affix it.

As for your 11 inches too short snakes.... If I were you, I'd just drag the console table back 11 inches :) hahahaha

I really like the colored double sided velcro strips, but they are a rip off, way too expensive for a little wire tie. I tried to get them wholesale, but I got no response. I think the stuf also comes in large spools it also has a slot on the end so it can stay on one end of the cable. I found them in Staples and Radio shack used to have them. they priced themseleves out of the market maybe. Anyon have a good supplier of this stuff?

Me too, you can't lose 'em if you use them right, also Very Stylish! LOL
I've bought WAY TOO MANY of these bastards.

I put the label on lengthwise, then snip of a section of packing tape and wrap it. Packing tape sticks to itself very well.

Thane...

Where did you buy them? A music equipment store, or a data networking company? They will be much less costly from the latter... Ortronics is the brand I use. I pick up wads of them when I see them on ebay in "bundles".

Ditto that (or you can also use scotch tape for small labels).

I mainly buy them at BigBox stores (WalMart, Target, Shopko)they are usually around a buck for a package of 10. $0.10 apiece ain't bad. I actually bought them most recently at Menards when I was checking prices on rigid fiberglass.

Late at night, when everyone's gone, the wires in my studio wriggle and writhe in a sensual intertangled mess. By morning's light, they are hopelessly interwoven in a pseudo-random afterglow of their perverse orgy the night before.

Sometimes, if you sneak up real quiet and use night vision goggles, you can actually see them mating.

That's why I don't even bother.

LOL That's hilarious, I think you may be on to something.

It could be worse, and probably will be one day...

Of course, having the patchbay [image 3] helps a lot...

Since I just wired up my modest mixer rack last weeked, I'll jump in here, I tried as best as I could to keep power to the left and audio to the right. And yes, those are Hosa snakes and cables. Some day I'll be able to afford the good stuff.

workshed, you've done a very neat job of it but looking at those pics reminds me of why I don't use tie straps. When they're trimmed they always leave that sharp end sticking out. Many is the time I've sliced the hell out of my hands and forearms on those. That's the main reason I tie alll my lines with wax rope. But it does look neat. :D

Yeah, I was quickly reminded of that when I was working on it. I still have a nice 2" scab on my right forearm from one of them, not to mention the cut on my thumb. I also realized that when I add new gear to the rack, I'll either have to remove and replace the ties or just keep adding on. Pretty soon the back is all going to be all zip ties!

The trick to wire ties is how you cut them. Don't just snip the end off. Pull it slightly to just before it "clicks" at the next tightest spot, then snip. Then the sharp part will spring back inside the head.

no scrapes or bandaids!

not to mention that you can spin them around, and actually make it look better too by "hiding" the offensive part of the tie.
