Thats Joe Egans Place isn't it? Very nice color scheme. So are you keeping the Mackie console when you move in to the new facility or did you decide to move up to a large format console?;) So, Bruce, have John post the floor plan and construction pics at his site like he did for Sjoko's.

Well... for the moment, the Mackie will have to do..... the new studio construction is taking a big bite of the budget and I won't be able to justify the expense of a large-format console until I recoup some of the construction costs......

OTOH - I can pretty much make the Mackie work well for me, so it'll be ok for a while longer.......! (new outboard pres and EQ are definitely in next year's budget though!) ;)

And I suspect John may post something once it's closer to completion.......

I definitely understand budget constraints during and after construction. I can't wait until my garage studio is done. Im working out wiring and power requirements right now, Im supposed to start framing this month so Ill be ready by Christmas. One trick I saw for someone who was in the interim from Mackie to larger was adding a 8 channel Neve side car and bussed to it like a submixer and used the Neve to characterize the mixdown, fairly cheap in comparison but it bridges the gap and side cars can be used for a variety of things. Im going to be using a Ramsa WR-T820 which I've used in the past, more than likely will be replacing it in a few years with a X2 Alesis or something. I used the Mackie a few times and I tried the MX9000 and I didn't like the faders feel. Too many hours on the Ramsa and API legacy's I guess. Its weird how you become acclimated to how something feels as well as how it sounds. Nothing wrong with Mackies though, they have their own sound like everything else. Im waiting for Line 6 to come out with console modeling PC interface ;)

When is estimated time of completion of BBS?

John's finishing of detailed design and I'm anticipating construction to begin starting in December.... I expect to re-open for March 1st...

Good idea about the Neve sidecar thing.... definitely something to look into if it looks like the console upgrade will be out of reach for a while...!

Console modelling?!?!? now there's a great idea!!! ;)

I can see it now ---

Sure, you can have a Neve, Trident, API, SLL, or even the original EMIs used by the Beatles with the PODConsole....

Why pay $5,000,000 for world-class consoles when you can have the all the major consoles at your fingertips at the flick of a button!

And at the astounding price of $399!!!

While it may look strange to some clients having all the inputs/outputs wired to the new bean shaped device, they'll change their mind when they here the modelled guitar sounds of the guitar POD modelled by a Neve!!

Don't wait - order yours today!!!!!!

:D :D

Brucey,

I'll take 12!!!!

Or wait... maybe I should wait for the PODConsole Pro!!

Behringer will of course have to release their own version... it will advertise that it sounds like a Neve, but at closer listening one will notice that it sounds more like your average Radio Shack DJ mixer :)

All of those ProTools cats could wait for "consoleFarm"

Ok... I'll stop now :D

I'm waiting until we get the REAL technology -- modelling the modellers!!!!!!!!!

The POD-Farm -- it models the "classic" sounds of the V-Amp, J-Station, Genesis, and of course, the POD modellers!

Whoa... now you've totally blown my mind

When will they release "HomeRecEngineerFARM"...

with true to life models of all our favorite engineers!

NS10s on most of these desks? I have a hard time beliving that they suck when Bluebear says they do.

Strmkr; I had a loft about that size before I got married, If I was into it then I would have an intense room now.

they DO suck... but a lot of people are used to the way they suck! ;)

EXACTLY Bear!

I too have a pair of NS-10's on my desk... I've worked in several studios as an engineer/session player/producer and had gotten to the point where I was very used to how they sounded.

When I finally had the chance to do my very own band's project (for a record label none the less) I decided I would invest in a "second set" of monitors... so that I could A/B between my NS-10's and this other set.

I bought a set of Event 20/20's.

Needless to say (truthfully)... the NS-10's haven't even been turned on since day *1* of the tracking... which was a little over 1 year ago. I *JUST* got finished the mixing two weeks ago.

I'm planning on moving my NS-10's to the live room for playback monitors.

Anyone else as lame as me and get excited when one of these big studios actually have a piece of gear that you have??

God Bless!

My dream studio would be my own. As a little boy I only had one desire...to have my own pro recording studio....now I have.

Nice place man. One of these days, one of THESE DAYS...

I'm not sure if i read this right but did sound kitchen claim to do car detailing while you were recording there!? Thats just crazy

yes! and gourmet italian food! sheesh! how can someone compete with that? i have a friend that is recording there right now. he said the place is just amazing! be looking for a band called "homeless J" the should be on the shelves in a few months.

hey foreverrain - your studio turned out great man!

wish I had that kind of space...your live room is HUGE. hell of a place for band practice, nice lighting.

between just the dry wall/auralex/lighting, how much do you have into the place? oh and the control room glass...

btw - hell of a long wire to record that drumset way over there eh? XLR has no probs with that kind of distance?

wes,
i have got a total of about 25,000 in it. that includes framing, drywall, some concrete work, HVAC, plumbing, paint and auralex. i know quite a few people in the business, so i got a good deal on some of the framing and drywall and such. i have actually stopped using that platform for drums. i usually mover them to the middle of the room now. i have got plans to put 2 iso boothes in in the next few weeks.

Found another one...

Picked up Norah Jones' CD today. Smooooth... Saw that some of it had been recorded at Allaire in upstate NY. Never heard of that one. Wheeeeeeeeeeee doggies! What a place!
