Hey guys.

I want to do some quick recording on my iPad and I was wondering how things would be if I plugged in my SM58 into an iRig. I have a 1/4 converter btw. I know they sell the new iRig mic but I don't feel like spending $60 and then another $40 to plug in a guitar/bass.

Any help?

You'd still need a preamp to be able to do that with the iRig. The iRig Mic is now shipping and is a self powered condenser mic. I'd go for that instead but if you want to use your dynamic try it with a preamp, either standalone or from a mixer.

I had the same question. What I really wanted to do was record live instruments onto the ipad. I had many experiments, and I blogged about 'em so here's the links. Sorry about the playing, I was really just trying to get sound INTO the damn ipad.

So these are just my findings, hopefully it'll help. I'm on a quest myself to see what I can do with this thing. The price is definitely right...

Those links took me to a sign up page. Did yo use the iRig Mic for these?
