Dear Specialists, tks already for being so kind in helping me.
I actually recorder 12 tracks on my Korg D 16 digital multitracks recorder.
Now I intend to mix it, gives general effects/compression and put it on a audio CD-R.
I have a PC that I would try to use. I have not a good audio cards because all the music made by me is played on hardware gears.
I have a Orb SCSI back up unit for the Korg but i doubt I can succesfully transfer tracks from it to the computer, or better said probably buying a audio card will get more flexibility, isn’t??
Question is: if I get a Terratec 24/95 with SPDIF IN (Korg has a SPDIF out), it is supposed that the signal will be transferred into the pc remaining in the digital domain, Is it correct ???
Would not it remain in the korgfile format ?? The korg multitrack give the possibility to export files in wav, that probably will be the solution !!
How will then manipulate the tracks inside the PC ??
Pushing the play on D 16 and record the result with a software sequencer ???
I imagine that after this i will be able to transfer it on a CD that will be playble on HIFI gears. Correct ???

I'm not familiar with the Korg, but one possibility is to get a sound card, record your song from the Korg to a wav file on the PC via the sound card, then burn your CD with the wav file.

Question is: if I get a Terratec 24/95 with SPDIF IN (Korg has a SPDIF out), it is supposed that the signal will be transferred into the pc remaining in the digital domain, Is it correct ???

Yes.

Again, not too familiar with the intricasies of Korg. That sounds like the appropriate step.

How will then manipulate the tracks inside the PC ??

Yes.

Yes, if the HIFI can play CD-R's (most can).

You will have to purchase (buy) a program that you can "track" with.

Some examples are:

Cakewalk

Sonar

Vegas

N-Track

You will also want to purchase a program that you can use for EDITing.

Example...

Sound Forge

You can check it out at http://www.sonicfoundry.com

SYNC and transfer

Again me:....
Transferring tracks from an external multitrack recorder via the digital SPDIF to a PC audiocard agan via the SPDIF IN, shall I record (on the software sequencer) track by track or all together ??
(I would like to have all the track still separated to make the mixing inside the PC .
If they are to be recorder one by one, I expect to have to make the sync between the multitrack and then PC sequencer: can i give it via the SPDIF connection or shall I mandatory have the MIDI link ??
I ask this because some audiocards like Terratec 24/96 do not have the MIDI on board.

Tks a lot for the help

You'll have to transfer them track by track, unless your multitracker and soundcard have multiple inputs and outputs....

Since your multitracker has the option to export WAV files, they SHOULD all line up once you import them to a multitracker.....

BTW, a Delta Dio 2448 is $89.99 at Mars Music and had S/PDIF I/O......

cannot export in wav ............

Gidge, I am unable to export in wav actually as the OS I have is not 2.0 version. I wanted to up-date but need a zip not available straight on.
The idea was that being SPDIF a standard I will transfer track by track in the PC but to keep the tracks alined i need to master the audiocard sync; this was suposed to happen via the MIDI hook, but if the soundcard does not have it, how to manage ???

Is MIDI hook necessary o cards like the one you suggested can sync any of my tracks when i will export them via the SPDIF optical ??
Tks for the reply once more

Do you have an USB port on your computer?

If you do have an USB port, you could purchase an Midisport 2X2.

It will give you 2 MIDI IN and 2 MIDI OUT.

I don't know the webpage, I think this it.

http://www.midiman.com/midiman/html/products/USB2x2.htm

I am not familiar with Korg products, so I am not sure if the unit you are using has a MIDI IN or a MIDI OUT.

If it not possible for you to sync you equipment with a midi device, then you could do it the "old fashioned way".

You could lay a "sync tone".

You will need to record/place a sound at/across the beginning of all of the tracks.

Therefore, that will enable you to "line" up the tracks with each other.

If what I said does not make sense, post me back. ;)

F_cksia:

You're correct, I did omit Cool Edit pro.

That was solely by accident, I'm getting old at my young age. :D

Ok, I just read your other post.

So, you do have midi out. :)

If your computer has USB, you're in luck (money wise).

If not, then you're going to have to buy a soundcard with MIDI.

You could track using SPDIF, but youl'll only be able to export one track at a time. You will still be OK, because everything will still sync together (but, it will take you some time to transfer 16 tracks, one track at a time).

let us know if you have an USB port.

Hey Guys, you are splendid people taking care/helpinh me.
YES, I have a USB port on my PC
YES, Korg D 16 has MIDI I/O
Tks again for all

Message for Spin

In Italy we say: "when you make 30 you can make 31 too".
In other words let's complete the story. We are to the point that having an USB I will not need an audio card with MIDI.
Which are the best choices considering as I play and record myself alone (electro music with synthetizers) ??
Stuff like Echo, Terratec, Lynx, M-Audio DIO or what else ??
Pls also consider the included bundle software as I have not much audio softwares.
Tks again

You should keep it simple if money is an issue.

Get the Delta 66 4 INS / 4 OUTS and SPDIF.

Get the Midisport 2X2 (2 MIDI INS / 2 MIDI OUTS).

!Esta bien!

peace

This is a little off the subject, but what kind of music are you creating?

Spin, kinda music ???

Spin, sorry for the delay in replying. we have some lag, you know...
I composed and play electro music, kinda BOC or Isan. Not really techno.
I would call it minimal dark ambient.
I plan, hopefully, for a demo in september this year.
Need more infos ??
