Great discussion on this thread ... first off, the tune totally rocks. Very different. I love the rhythm of the whole thing and it is very catchy.

I have to listen in lo-fi because I am a loser and can't afford DSL (what with the kids and wife) :)

So, usually when I listen, the mix is muddy to begin with, however, with this tune, even in lo-fi, the mix was great! One of the most crystal clear mixes I have heard on this board (I noticed this with your last tune as well) ... The low end was a little bit muddy at the beginning of the mix, but again, this is just a consequence of streaming in lo-fi and listening on crappy tiny computer speakers...

I think you should definitely check out as many sources as you can, and getting different advice on the board is great, but again everyone is listening on different speakers/monitors, in different time zones, and more than likely in different states of drunkeness/highness ... so, I guess you can only go so far before you go crazy trying to get a mix to sound perfect. Anyway, my $.02 ... I really dig this tune and, like I said, the mix sounds great on my end ...

Okay, I've just read everything I just typed and realized I just said nothing ... :)

I listened to the "5-08-03 Mix 2"

The snare sounds a little bit like it's clipping or distorted here and there. Only a little bit, and it could be a preference thing. The acoustic guitars are mixed perfectly if you ask me. I'm sorry if I'm not coming up with enough detail here, but the mix is very enjoyable and I can't find nitpicking. The actual song is great. I remember hearing this one. I didn't remember that guitar solo around 2:00. Maybe I have a bad memory. A nice touch. I guess you were looking for some mix opinions but I can't really offer anything since it's beyond me :D

(and I didn't read any other responses, so I may be repeating other people)

hey Tom, still trying to get things squared away in the new place.. I'm listening on these new Bose computer speakers and they do some strange things to the sound.. They sound great but they add a lot.. The computer is my only tunes set up right now.. Luckily I have all my CD's converted to mp3 so I at least have tunes.. almost 400 full cd's loaded into the computer.. I should have my stereos set up tonight..

On to the tune.. I think it sounds great.. really great.. the drums in the beginning sound a lot better than on the original version... That solo is great too.. Like I said I can't offer any mix suggestions about the low end because of these crazy speakers.. I'm hoping to have my stuff up and running in another week.. The vocals are loud but not too loud! Pretty much just right to me because of the good vocal sound.. It's amazing that I haven't been able to hear the stuff that Triple mentioned but I'll blame that on these speakers.. They have this whole exaggerated stereo thing happening.. Sounds good for listening, but not good for monitoring..

I really love the this tune!!!!! Such a monsterous improvement over the original.. I don't hear pitch issues either.. It all sounds like it was planned to me.. The computer will be hooked up to the monitors soon and then maybe I'll have something useful to say.. Probably not though.. Excellent everything!! I really like your low voice on this.. O.k. I better stop now because I'm starting to sound gay.. I'll send you an email later on..

I should be back in the clinic regularly starting this week.. Moving sucks.. Maybe I'll die here so I don't have to move again!
